I decided to make my own cargo-style rear rack with a wooden platform. To do this I took a 1″x 4″ board of “strong” wood, maple, I believe, and cut it to the desired length. I then determined the exact location for this platform on my rack and used perforated metal hanging strap that you can buy at any home improvement store to attach the bottom side of the platform to the rack. I used short wood screws and cut the strap to small lengths and screwed the rack and platform tight in several locations.
Keep in mind that where I hunt in Minnesota it is legal to have your gun uncased and loaded while riding a bike. I have certainly toyed with the idea of having an ATV style rack on the handlebars, but that means I can not travel tight twisty trails and I do like the fact that the upright scabbard allows for quick handling.

The bicycle itself has always been a tool for me, a way to access hard to reach places. I have been hunting by bike for as long as I can remember being able to hunt and the Ruffed Grouse is my favorite quarry. There is no better tasting thing in the world in my opinion. You might as well lump Grouse, Lobster and Walleye together the best things you can pluck from nature, pour butter on and consume.
Hey Im trying to build an ebike sort of like dr bass’s. I like how the motor is from crystalyte but i dont know what controller or battery or ect to put on it. I want the bike to go maybe 40 mph and have a 20 mile range. please help
While the FAT bike tires may appear slow and cumbersome, nothing could be further from reality. Though they are certainly wider, and larger, than traditional 26” tires, FAT bike tires float over most surfaces and keep the bike’s steering lively and assuring. Depending on rider weight, FAT Tires can be inflated to pressures as low as 7pounds per square inch. Lower PSI is how you unlock the performance advantage of FAT tires. This larger tire coupled with lower-than-normal PSI inflation also serves a dual purpose: natural suspension. Over bumps, rocks, You’ll feel like you’re riding a cushy full-suspension bike, only it’s faster and more responsive. FAT tires allow the rider to sling shot themselves through the nastiest bumps in terrain. They also ride fantastically on road. You’ll feel like you’re cornering on a motorcycle as you lean into turns on a descent at high-speed.
Available now to North America, the ST1 e-bike can be found at Stromer dealers where it sells for around $3,500. If the asking price is a bit steep Stromer is currently promoting an ST1 giveaway for US residents, ending 17 May 2013.

While the Samick Sage Takedown is one of the best options for adults, it mostly addresses the needs of beginners and intermediate users. If you decide to prospect the market and get a good-quality bow, you might come to the conclusion that this one is well worth every penny as it has gathered a plethora of positive user reviews over time.
In terms of motors, the big names are Yamaha, Bosch and Shimano. Shimano Steps was the first e-bike specific groupset from the Japanese giant and it features a mid-drive electric motor, as well as integrated electric shifters and a torque sensor to smooth out the ride a little.
We also have new metrics with which to compare bikes, toque, power and battery life, not just travel, geometry and weight. It’s an amazing time to be testing bikes and this month we have four of the most exciting ebikes on the market.

CARDIO FITNESS. Essentially you can gauge the value of your training on heart rate. To gain cardio fitness you have to raise your heart rate to a prescribed training level. The commonly accepted formula is 220-your age x .80-.90. For me the formula would be 220 – 66 = 154 x .85 = 131. So I try to do most of my training at a heart rate of at least 131. To learn more and to quickly calculate your training heart rate, Google “training heart rate.”
The neat thing about the model is that its draw length can be adjusted from 13 inches to 30 inches. With an adjustable draw weight that can be customized between 5 and 50 lbs, it goes without saying that this bow will pose no problems to rookies and experts alike.

Summary: I really like this bike. It is fast, real fast. I feel the Hunter is priced well for a 750W mid-drive off-road bike. My friends have all tried it and they have been impressed with it also. After sales service hasn’t been great in terms of answering their phones, and I still don’t know exactly how fast I’m going, but I don’t need to, I ride by feel not by the speedometer. A little attention to the tyre/tube issues and adding rim tape to the wheel would be advantageous for getting good reviews. 🙂 Having said all that, I would highly recommend buying this bike if you can afford it. 🙂 (Posted on 8/10/2015)
Rambo and Felt offer bikes with electric assist motors. The lithium ion batteries give you speeds of up to 20 mph and will travel 19 miles between charges on motor use alone. You can use the motor as a pedal assist if you like, which will give you even more distance on a battery. Sweating up a steep hill? Just switch on the motor for some assistance. There is some question about using the electric power on properties where no motorized vehicles are allowed, but a representative from Rambo told me the bike has been okayed by several state wildlife agencies.
I have phoned Dillinger twice (separate days) and was greeted with an answering machine on both occasions. I left a message asking them to get back to me and was hoping this could be done within 24 hours but alas this was not the case. So the after sales service is a little disappointing at the moment. 🙁
One of the most affordable recumbent tadpole trikes I’ve tested, you do have to pay an additional $350 for shipping but it comes “ready to ride” so you can hop right on. The 48 volt battery supports increased power and higher speeds for the 500 watt internally……

In addition to a fully-built Big Easy, we’re giving you the opportunity to help launch our brand by backing the following pledge levels. From general donations, to t-shirts, to a full-carbon FAT bike fork (yeah, that’s right, FULL CARBON), there’s certainly something here that’s bound to interest you. Please make our Big Easy a success by backing our project and spreading the word.
So before I crown a victor, let me put this out there – I am not entirely sold on the fanny pack. Maybe I’ll be completely alone on this, but hydration bags are just so damn convenient. Why spend time awkwardly fumbling around for a water bottle when you can run a spigot straight to your face? Hell, I stay better hydrated when I wear a bag because it’s so much easier and I’m not worried about running out of water. Not to mention that I don’t have to worry about salmonella because maybe my carbon wonder bike only has one water cage, and it’s located in the most inaccessible place imaginable.

I then drilled a 3/4″ hole in the battery box to mount the keyed switch, followed by connecting the positive lead cables to the appropriate terminals on the switch assembly as indicated on the package material. With each wire connection, I made sure to use heat-shrink tubing at each cable termination. I then measured, cut, and installed the positive and negative cables needed to extend from the battery box to the XT90 connector and cable that connects to the motor. The motor came with an extra female end XT90 connector which I soldered onto the negative and positive cables from the battery box. I also use this female XT90 connector when charging the battery pack using the smart charger, since it has alligator clips and connects quite easily.
No e-bike is perfect for every situation, so you need to think about what you’ll use it for most of the time. Will you use your e-bike for commuting and/or electric hunting bicycles Leisure rides? Serious off-roading?
Contrary to popular opinion, the fastest electric bikes in the world right now were built in  garages, not in factory workshops. Maybe its because companies are not interested in making illegally fast electric bikes because of liability, maybe there isn’t enough profit in making expensive and fast electric bikes, or maybe companies lack innovation and are waiting for individuals to make the bold steps forward. For whatever reason DIY garage-built bikes right now are the fastest electric bikes on the planet. I can put it this way, when Specialized announced last month that they were releasing the “worlds fastest electric bike” with a 25o watt motor, there were chuckles heard from garages everywhere. Some of the bikes on this list put out 200,000 watts. And racing any of these bike against the Specialized would be like racing a Hyundai against a Formula 1 car. This is a list of the 10 fastest electric bikes that we know of right now. No marketing BS here.  To qualify for this list, the builder must have shot a Youtube video that illustrates the claimed speed of the electric bike. As we know the electric bike world is full of exaggerators…DIY builders being no exception. All the people on this list are respected builders, and are named by their Endless-Sphere forum handles. Endless-Sphere is the hang out spot for DIY builders and hot rodders. On this list  are some of the biggest names in the DIY community. There are a few (very expensive)  commercially available E-bikes that would make it to the middle of this list, but we have excluded those for now and will celebrate  those instead  in this  story… Top 10: The Fastest Commercially Available Electric Bikes. This here  list is to honor the achievements in the DIY community:

I can see they would be useful in some of the places I hunt. However, most WMAs in Arkansas do not allow motorized access and the electric assist would likely not be permissible. Is Arkansas one of the states that do permit their use on public areas?
Torque is a consideration, but actual figures are rarely quoted by e-bike makers. Owners will frequently comment on whether their electric bike offers plenty of torque or lacks it, but these comments need to be taken in context. Road conditions, as well as the weight of the rider, have a big impact.
Comparable to the product that has been mentioned above, this is an option that can prove to be best if you would like to teach children about archery. Because it is designed specifically for children, it is complete in terms of safety features that will make it kid-friendly. Because it is made by Barnett, there is good reason for you to believe that this is a top quality product.
The Canadian government announced national parks will now be free for people 18 years old and younger. The move is part of Canada’s 2018 federal budget, and follows the success of 2017’s free parks project.
At the other end of the spectrum, a bike can be used purposely to lay down a scent trail. Try pouring your favorite estrous-doe urine into a small pump-spray bottle and spraying it onto a small spot on a tire. Every time that tire goes around it leaves an olfactory footprint just like a hot doe’s.

The second flat occurred about a week later on the front wheel. The puncture was more traditional, in that it was on the side of the tube where the wheel makes contact with the ground, suggesting a sharp object on the ground pierced the wheel and tube. (However it was a little off to one side so a pinch puncture isn’t necessarily out of the question. See note below).

As these fat tire bikes have showed up at hunting shows over the last year, I have viewed them more with curiosity than anything, but I as I considered how they might fit into my bowhunting, I am about to take the plunge. I bowhunt whitetails on public land in several states each year, and that often involves getting way back into a property to get away from the crowds. For example, I have found a location where I have killed a couple of mature bucks on public land in Kansas, but it’s a walk of more than 1.5 miles. That’s a long haul before daylight and after dark. Once I shoot a big buck back in there, the distance seems to become even longer.
The BBS-HD is a complete ground-up rework for the most powerful and efficient mid drive unit on the market. The BBS-02 was a 9 FET 25A system based on the BBS-01. The BBS-HD has grown a lot in size up to 12 FET and can comfortable churn out 30A all day long without missing a beat. The size of the motor considerably larger than the BBS-02 so we’ve designed a cover that partially conceals the motor. The BBS-HD comes custom spec’d with the patented GearSensor as standard which you will need on those gear shifts. The BBS-HD is at the limit of what is viable on an e-bike for a mid drive powerplant. The GearSensor works with the motor and intermittently inhibits the power from the motor during each gear shift, to ensure you don’t throw a chain or damage the shifter and derailleur. We’ve tuned this system so you don’t have to.
I think the market will mature with manufacturers making e-bikes limited to 20mph. All the effort by manufacturers to make electric vehicles that are street legal and go faster than 20mph will be towards electric motorcycles, scooters, and cars which will need licenses and insurance. Of course there will always be garage builders making whatever they want but they will be a minuscule segment of the market.
Before I started bowhunting, I had no idea of the joy that hunting unpressured deer brings. Only one other archer was in my hunting club, and those first few weeks before gun season started were truly wonderful.

With a range of 20+ miles, the Big Easy is positioned to put e-bikes on the map in the US where approximately 100,000 were sold in 2012. This figure lags behind sales in Europe where 1.1 million e-bikes were sold last year and in China, where approximately 27Million were sold in the same period! The Big Easy hits the fastest growing segments of the bicycle market – the electric category and fat tire category. With trends of electric car sales continuing to grow in the US as well as the use of bicycles for commuting in general, Defiant is positioned to take advantage of these macro trends with its electric hunting bicycles model – the Big Easy.
If you’re new to hunting, you want to find the best hunting bow for a beginner and that is the Bear Archery Brave Bow Set. This bow set features a high quality bow that has a 15 to 20 inch draw length and a 15 to 20 draw weight. The set includes 2 safety glass arrows, an arm guard, two piece arrow quiver, pin sight, and an arrow rest. This set has everything that your young hunter may need to get out there and land their first catch.
The advantages of fat tire bikes are many. You can ride them over rough or muddy ground, even snow. They are geared for rough terrain and provide good traction and balance. They will ride right over small obstructions such as branches and rocks, obstacles that might trip up a normal mountain bike. These bikes are built to take the beating a hunter will dish out.
That comes as no surprise considering that this recurve bow is relatively easy to maneuver and poses no issues to owners in terms of convenience and usability. The product can be purchased both for right-handed and left-handed users.
The Dogati super electric bike (see story here) is an Astro Flight 3220 powered machine running through a NuVinci variable transmission. This E-bike is one of the most elaborate and beautiful DIY bikes ever, (read about top 10 elegant ebikes) and it was crafted from the ground up (not a converted bicycle, like almost every other bike on this list). Make note of the special-order extra-wide wheel rims, which allow the use of heavy-duty moped tires.
Batteries: Battery packs can be fitted in all kinds of different positions, but often, they are fixed to a rack behind the rider. If you plan on carrying anything, this configuration could be problematic.

There was no documentation in the box on how to set up or use my Bafang handle bar display. While riding I have no read out of speed or other information that I would expect to see on an eBike. I have to ‘tap’ my brakes to for the display to show me what power level (1-9) the motor is currently set at and to see how much battery charge is remaining (indicated as either 1-5 bars of power remaining). I suspect it’s a problem with the cadence sensor but I do not have the technical savvy to fix it without some help from Dillinger, which brings me to my next point.

The Impulso e-Road is Bianchi’s take on a “normal” looking e-bike. It’s different from the Cube Agree C:62 though because it uses a Polini E-P3 motor rather than a Fazua one. It’s still integrated into the down tube, though.
Almost any time you build a lithium battery pack you need a BMS. A BMS requires a wire to connect to each cell to balance the voltage or state of charge across the battery pack. Each one of these wires connects to the BMS circuit board to provide overcharge protection, discharge protection, overheat monitoring, short-circuit protection, and balancing functions, etc. During high discharge and charge sequences, the cell voltage and capacity can differ between cells, thus the need for a BMS.
We’ve seen a few different electric fat bike designs in recent years, including 20-inch-tired clown bikes from Hanebrink and the Pedego Trail Tracker. We expect to see more of these bikes emerge because many US cities with big bike cultures – Portland, New York, Boulder and Minneapolis, to name a few – can have harsh, snowy winters. An electric bike designed to excel in snowy weather seems like a natural fit for commuters in these types of locations.
Some of you may remember an article I wrote in the early 2000’s about utilizing mountain bikes as a tool for hunting.  While the bikes were a great tool for eliminating scent and going quietly into the woods, they did have their drawbacks.  Under pedal power, I found I often arrived at my stand sweaty which was less than ideal. Even though mountain bikes were made for off road adventures, I often found that their tires were less than adequate for coping with fallen branches, rocks, and the like often found while hunting.

From my perch 18 feet up in a sweetgum tree, I couldn’t even see my hunting vehicle, which was barely 40 yards away. I’d stashed the camouflaged bicycle in a brushpile, and it was hidden so well that I was beginning to worry that I might never find it again.

The basics of an electric bicycle are simple. The electric motor propels it, a battery supplies the power, and a throttle provides speed control – although not all electric bikes have a throttle. The difference lies in how these components are arranged and what assistance they give.
The meld of biking and hunting is interesting to us and perhaps timely. Ostensibly, the Cogburn bike is an alternative to an ATV. There’s a movement of a younger demographic of hunters that may find a non-motorized option appealing.
All of these machines in this list would be over any federal limit definition of “electric bike” so therefore all these electric bikes would be considered to be illegal in most countries. All except for one. The Cedric Lynch machine has turn signals, headlights, horn etc, and actually has a license plate, making it completely street legal as  motor bike. Unfortunately Cedric’s bike would also win the “booby prize” because I discovered later this bike does not have pedals.
Looking to capitalize on the success of his prototype, Spreng teamed up with Jonathan Dombek and Greg Heinemann to develop Defiant, the company, and build its first model, the Defiant: an electric bike (e-bike) with the styling and craftsmanship one would expect to find in a top-dollar bike. Named, the Big Easy, Defiant’s first model has will fit and/or exceed the needs of several riding styles. As a FAT bike, it can go anywhere in as a commuter, snow, sand or rocky trail mountain-bike. It’s also perfect for the adventure-sportsman looking to get to a deer stand or previously unattainable location with a stealthily quiet mode of transportation.
Anyone toying with the idea of getting an e-bike need not look further than the Super 73 from California’s Lithium Cycles, already fully funded on Kickstarter. We took the electric bicycle out on the streets of NYC to test the brand’s product claims…
In August we reported on the Cogburn CG4, a fat bike designed for hunters. The high-end bike ($2,199) has a scabbard for a gun, bow or fishing pole, 3.8-inch fat tires and a camouflage aluminum frame.
Mountain bikers love to moan. If we’re not complaining about the advancing tide of new standards, then we are bitching about never having enough time to ride our soon-to-be-out-of-date bikes. Talk about First World problems!
Sometimes you need an extra boost. Sometimes you have to get from point a to point b faster than normal. Sometimes you have to blast through a snow bank. Maybe you’re hauling a lot of hunting gear in the wilderness. Whatever your reason, the Big Easy’s 500 watt motor will give you that extra boost to get you where you need to go, no matter the situation.

The original battery holder design used a wooden battery box (above). However this design posed issues with weight high up on the back side of the bike. When parking the bike, the kickstand was very unstable. The bike would tend to topple over if someone accidentally touched of the bike. I was also nervous when parking the bike at the grocery store or some other stop in town. So I decided to remove the battery box and install pannier bags. This new design is simple because it keeps the weight down low making the bike more stable. In addition, the bags could be used to carry extra gear and items around town. The only inconveniences are the fact that you have to run a series wire from one bag to another to connect each 24V battery pack. As well as any 48V connection would have to span two packs.
Cycling. Biking doesn’t give the quick cardio returns of running because you (probably) cannot hit your training heart rate as quickly. That’s because you’re essentially using only your legs, and the bike seat supports most of your weight.
“I thought I’d give a fat tire snow bike a try,” Spreng explains on Defiant’s CrowdSupply campaign. “It worked great on snow and ice, but it wasn’t fast enough for me. So, I put an electric motor on my snow bike. It was brilliant. Now I could go 15 to 20 miles per hour on snow-covered trails and roads while still getting a terrific workout. That’s really how Defiant Bicycles and the Big Easy model were born.”
The CB4 frame has attachment points for 1, 2, or 3 standard water bottle cage mounts, depending on the space available on each frame size (larger frames have more bottle mounts, smaller ones have less). The fork has 2 mid-blade mounts and 2 sets of triple-boss attachment points, one on each leg, for oversize cages on the fork to expand carrying capacity for water, stove fuel, sleeping pads and other gear.
Visually, the Pedego City Commuter Classic Electric Bike is stunning – a smart blend of yesteryear’s style and today’s technology. Pleasantly high handlebars, a sprung seat, and lovely Schwalbe Fat Frank tires make it very comfortable. Stopping is taken care of by powerful disk brakes, front and rear. Lights electric hunting bikes included, as is a useful cargo rack. From an e-bike standpoint, the Pedego Classic City Commuter sports a reliable, hub-mounted motor driven by a 36-volt, 10-amp battery. There’s a digital display with a trip computer, odometer, speedometer, pedal assist level, and battery charge information.

Matt  Recumpence has been a pioneer in adapting powerful RC-motors to electric bikes (specifically the top of the line Astro Flight stuff). After building several super powerful bicycles, Matt decided on a trike for his own set of wheels where the weight of the battery is down low, and 3 wheels is better than 2 wheels when handling the incredible high power that the Astro motor puts out in high-speed turns. Matt sells his reduction drive kits to the public, and many in the DIY community have used these to build themselves scorchingly fast and lightweight RC-powered bikes. (see our article on this trike here)
The frame’s lowered top tube maximizes stand over clearance and rider comfort, making it easy to mount and dismount. The frame is engineered to ensure an efficient, responsive ride and stable handling, even at low speed.
On their website, Camelbak states the FlashFlo was designed to carry a trail map, some snacks, a phone, wallet, and keys. I shoved a whole lot more than that into the two small compartments. The main compartment is shared with a 1.5 L hydration reservoir, while the smaller outer pocket has two internal mesh dividers, and a key ring.
Electric bikes are not just disguised motorbikes or scooters, and there are some very key differences between the two. For starters, an e-bike can only assist its rider, its motor cannot be the sole source of power for the bike. To clarify, an electric bike can only assist a rider up to 25kmh (that’s roughly 15.5mph).

Swimming – and water jogging – work wonders if you’re injured or badly out of shape. While preparing for the Boston Marathon, a friend of mine hurt his Achilles tendon and couldn’t run. So the last two months before the race he jogged in the pool (up to two hours per session!) to stay in shape. Without the impact of running on solid ground, his Achilles healed, and he ran Boston in 3:30.

The basics of an electric bicycle are simple. The electric motor propels it, a battery supplies the power, and a throttle provides speed control – although not all electric bikes have a throttle. The difference lies in how these components are arranged and what assistance they give.
If your frame doesn’t have water bottle mounts or you simply need to carry more water on your trail riders, you might as well just strap those tools onto your frame (via something like the Specialized SWAT system), and get your enduro on with the FlashFlo.
The beauty of this electric bike is that you can install the kit on pretty much any existing bike with a 68mm bottom bracket shell width. Choosing the bike to convert into your new electric bike is really fun. If you have an existing bike to use, you can save a bit of money, which is what I did. You can also find a good bike at your local bike shop or even Craigslist. Here are some things to look for when choosing components for your next e-bike:
Whether you travel on mountain bike, foot or horseback, be sure to stop and examine the bush around you. You’re likely to see some rare birds nesting and feeding, like speckled warblers, black-chinned honeyeaters and grey-crowned babblers. Cockatoos, magpies and kookaburras can also be seen along the track.
Here are two more advantages I see: One is the reduction in scent impact when travelling in my hunting area. My boots are not touching the ground, and I will be moving faster, leaving less signs of my intrusion that might alarm deer. Secondly, I ride a bike quite a bit on trails through wooded areas near my home, and I see that deer react much differently to a person on a bike than they do to a person on foot. They don’t see a person sitting on a pair of wheels as nearly the threat that they perceive a person walking. I’m not sure how much that will be an advantage, but spooking deer while scouting and travelling to and from a hunting location could be reduced.

I chose to use the mid-drive Bafang BBS02 motor kit. The downside to this design and kit is the fact that the pedal-assist mode can “crunch” your rear chain rings in the back when shifting. You typically have to pedal your bike to get the rear derailleur to change chain rings. The controller then detects that you are peddling your bike and then spins the front ring. You then hear a “crunch” from the back chain sprocket as it is shifting gears. There are a couple of ways around this design flaw:

Specialist off-road electric bikes aren’t https://electrichuntingbikes.com for road use, so we’re not spending a lot of time on them in this review. However, you may be interested in learning a few facts about these monstrosities. They’re lightweight yet tough with fat, all-terrain tires, advanced brakes, and speeds in excess of 50 mph.
The last e-bike component we’re going to discuss is the throttle. A few e-bikes use levers much like you’d find on some lawn mowers. Some just have a button, but most use motorcycle-style twist grips. These give a positive feel and more precise control.

I ran across a forum on www.bikeforums.net about using prismatic LifeP04 batteries for solar power storage (http://www.bikeforums.net/electric-bikes/900011-first-ebike-build.html). The second comment by turbo1859 caught my eye. I paid close attention to how he has previously constructed his battery packs using the prismatic cells. I ultimately chose these batteries for the simplicity of balancing the cells, and the ability to remove or replace cells in the future without having to rip apart the battery pack and remove the cells that are soldered together. I could simply replace a cell without having to solder a new one in series or parallel within the pack. The problem with these batteries is they are not lightweight. I believe all 4 packs weigh about 26 pounds.
Combining some eating restraint with exercise, I dropped to an ideal 165, and I’ve held that weight ever since with a simple plan: 1) Cut out the ice cream. As an ice cream-aholic, I had to break the habit (with the exception of birthdays and an occasional celebratory Coldstone after a great hunting trip or race). Maybe your weakness is soda. Drink water. Identify your weakness and go on the wagon. 2) Stick with two helpings. I used to eat until I could eat no more. Now I hold myself to two reasonable helpings.

Nothing really beats the original, and this best hunting bow shows you why. Cited as the official bow of the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®), this product is a reliable starter bow for archers of all skill levels, sizes and ages.
In a friction drive motor, a small, solid wheel rotates against the side of the tire in order to drive it. The first motorcycles used the same concept, with a motor mounted above the front wheel. The problem is that the drive rubs at the side of the tire. It’s inefficient, and it quickly wears the sidewall away. Tires need to be replaced every couple hundred miles. For this reason, you’ll seldom see electric bikes with this type of drive anymore.

While my first reaction to the surge in fat tire bikes made for hunting was one of curiosity, that has turned to excitement for trying out this new mode of transportation. Will this be another of those trends that ends up as a bit of hunting history, or will they find a niche that offers long-lasting usefulness? Speaking as a DIY bowhunter, let’s hope it’s the latter.

Cycling. Biking doesn’t give the quick cardio returns of running because you (probably) cannot hit your training heart rate as quickly. That’s because you’re essentially using only your legs, and the bike seat supports most of your weight.

LFP would win a few races, but is known more for smoking countless electric motors on race day. Says him: “I do tend to lean on things a little harder than most folks.”
If you’re looking for a low-impact way to hunt, using a mountain bike will serve that purpose very well. It’s quiet, quick, versatile and just plain fun. If you’ve never tried it before, you owe it to yourself to pull that bike off those hooks in the garage, trick it out and hit the woods with it.
From my perch 18 feet up in a sweetgum tree, I couldn’t even see my hunting vehicle, which was barely 40 yards away. I’d stashed the camouflaged bicycle in a brushpile, and it was hidden so well that I was beginning to worry that I might never find it again.
Unless your number one love in life is bikes, you probably don’t have every bike tool needed for this project. It is a really good idea to make friends with a bike mechanic at your local bike shop. Tell them what you are building and see if they have any good ideas. I did remove my crank set myself, but did not have the bottom bracket tools. I took my bike to the bike shop to have them remove my bottom bracket and install the mid-drive motor kit. I could have purchased the tools to do it myself, but he was able to do it for me in as little as five minutes. They didn’t charge me because it was so quick — and because they would be making money on all of my bike accessory purchases (which is a really good business model and great customer support).

All of these are legitimate concerns, but they are a topic for another article. The purpose of this test is to find the best electric mountain bike, not to debate whether the category is an inspired idea, or the most evil development in the history of mountain biking.
Electric mountain bikes have also boomed lately. Obviously the attraction of getting to the top of the hills faster and easier is there for all to see. Similarly, that assistance can balance the drag of the knobbly tyres.
This modular functionality in my opinion is very important. And the fact that batteryspace.com’s products are designed and assembled in the USA is important to me. So I made my decision to go with these batteries. Of course I would have to buy four 12-volt packs and 16 LED balancing modules. I would also have to buy a 52-volt smart charger to charge all of the batteries when I wire them in series. A 52-volt charger would prevent me from having to babysit the batteries during the charging process, which was really important to me. The smart charger automatically cuts power when the batteries are full, preventing overcharging issues.

Two big trends that have stormed the bicycle industry over the past few years are pedal-assisted electric drivetrains and fat tires. These two trends converge in Defiant Bicycles’ Big Easy. Unlike other electric bikes that stop at the edge of the street, the Big Easy keeps rolling over some of the toughest, most sluggish terrain on Earth – everything from hot sand to cold, mushy snow.

Virgin terrain is harder and harder to find, so Bengel and his team went East – all the way to the shores of the Bering Sea that sits between Alaska and Russia – and they found some of the freshest, most unspoilt land on the planet.
Foldability: Not all folding e-bikes are small. Some full-size electric bikes with standard 26-inch or 27.5-inch wheels can be folded to fit into compact spaces. Make sure you’re aware of a folding bike’s weight before you buy it, though. “Foldable” doesn’t always mean light.

Requires XL Luggage Rack for installation and proper use. Wt. capacity: 300 lbs. Wt: 25 lbs.

You’re probably thinking that if you can pack twice as much riding into the same amount of time, then surely the bikes are going to wear out twice as fast? The short answer is, yes! And if you’re always riding the same trails, that means more wear and tear on Mother Nature.
I previously used standard battery type rear and front lights. However I have grown tired of constantly changing their batteries and or charging the batteries. I wanted a system where I could run the lights from the main battery pack. Unfortunately, most bike shops don’t offer these lights so you have to search specialty scooter stores or other e-bike online sites. Once I found the 48V wired lights it was a matter of installing them on the bike. Most rear pannier racks have a mounting bracket for a tail light.

Eric has been involved in the electric bike industry since 2002 when he started a 6000 square foot brick and mortar Electric Bike store in downtown San Francisco. He is a true believer that small electric vehicles can change the way we operate and the way we think.
I bought this bike with intended use on my hunting farms. I’ve ridden it now off road several times, and to say I’m blown away, is an understatement. This bike simply blew me away on all fronts. The motor is super strong and pulls me around great. I’m 6’2 210 so I’m not a small guy either. Like others have said, if this thing doesn’t make you smile the first time you ride it, you’re just not a happy person!!!!
If you have access to a gym with free weights or machines, do leg presses (squats), lunges, toe raises, knee extensions, bench presses, biceps curls, and triceps extensions. This regimen will strengthen most of the muscles you use in hunting.
If you’re going for a full-time electric bike, the distance you travel on a single charge will be reduced considerably, though it’s difficult to offer precise figures. Manufacturers will quote anywhere from 20 to 40 miles while simultaneously using phrases like “in ideal conditions.”
Typically, you’re more likely to find a hub mounted motor on cheaper e-bikes. While they do have the advantage of being perhaps a little bit more quiet, they often can’t handle the hills quite as well.
The suggested tyre pressure is 40 psi (as indicated on the tyre rim). I’ve discussed this with some experienced bikers and they expressed concern that it might be a little low and could cause ‘pinching’ punctures on the rim when going over harder objects at speed. This was more my concern for the puncture on the front wheel, however that is only a theory, and as I’ve already said, it could also have been a piercing puncture. However I will keep an eye out for more punctures in the future and hope that my addition of rim tape and puncture resistant tubes will stop any further flat tyres from occurring.
The e-JOE Epik’s thumb throttle is not the most intuitive (it’s a bit like some powered lawn mowers), but you soon get used to it. The handlebar-mounted display could be easier to understand. These minor negatives aside, owners love the e-JOE Epik’s practicality and reliability. It delivers precisely what you expect from a folding electric bicycle.

Batteries: Battery packs can be fitted in all kinds of different positions, but often, they are fixed to a rack behind the rider. If you plan on carrying anything, this configuration could be problematic.
Battery costs vary enormously. Cheap batteries are available, but you just don’t know what you’re getting. Our advice is to buy only those recommended by the manufacturer. You’ll likely pay between $300 and $500, but the good news is you’ll only be buying one every few years.
Then there are the dedicated off-road e-bikes. These bikes push the boundaries of what’s possible, and the combination of materials and technologies doesn’t come cheap. You’ll pay a minimum of $3,500 for an off-road e-bike. During the course of our research, we found one for as much as $36,000.
The unit takes the cake when it comes to durability as it features a strong piece-layered limb. Additionally, you won’t have any trouble holding this bow as it makes sure that your grip is as firm as it can be considering that it comes with bubbled grooves on the riser.
I can’t fault the componentry much. It is mostly mid/high end accessories and parts that match well with the price (especially now that it is around $400 cheaper than when I purchased it a few weeks ago, ouch!).
I absolutely adore my hydration pack in the way that one can only love an inanimate object they’ve carried for innumerable hours. That trusty bag has served as a makeshift pillow, hangover companion, beer tote, and trail buddy for years, yet now some reformed downhillers with moto envy have decided they’re uncool, so it’s suddenly time to trade that relationship in for a water bottle, some electrical tape, and a nylon murse.
The next step is to remove your crank set. This usually involves using a hex tool to remove your crank arms, and then using a crank puller tool to pull the crank assembly away from your bottom bracket. Once you have the crank set removed from your bike you will need to remove your bottom bracket. The bottom bracket will generally unscrew using a special tool that matches your specific bottom bracket as there are several different models. Now you are down to the hole in the bottom of the frame. This is a good time to clean this part of your bike before you attach the new mid-drive motor assembly.
The Genesis is a winner in regards to durability, as it features a machined aluminum riser and ProCam and machined idler wheel. The limbs are competition composite and the cable guard is Teflon coated stainless steel.
I have done over 200 km on this bike so far and it lives up to its specs, especially its top speed and acceleration. There are bikes out there, specifically the Specialised Turbos, which are similar in specs but much higher in price point (+$2000) – so its definitely competitively priced. The only issue I have had on it is the battery life. However that’s because I am 104 kg and my backpack is usually 6 kg and I always ride it in the highest power output level, the higher gears, with little or no peddling, and I live in a hilly area (some hills being 50% incline) – so its expected I would get less range (I get a range of 15 km). Swimming. Building cardio endurance by swimming can take even longer than by running and biking because the water supports your weight and you recruit smaller muscles. You have to go all-out to reach the same heart rate you would achieve easily in running.
The second e-bike of our household. This thing looks even more gangster than it does in the photos. A real head turner. The BBS02 has power to burn and with the “Hot Rod-ing” of the throttle makes the world of difference to the way the kit responds. The other bike a BBS02 is not a Hot Rod and its going to have to be now that I have ridden one that is. The Hunter is not built for lightness. It is a heavy bike. The front fork works extremely well and handles all the bumps. The seatpost also aides the ride as it has a spring on it as well. The seat is also a relatively padded one. The The Hydrolic brakes work very well. My other bike has a Shimano 10 speed free wheel on the rear derailer. This gives an excellent range and combined with the standard front cog on the BBS02 is well matched. The Deore is a good quality unit and I am happy to see it on the Hunter as well. The only thing missing IMHO is a mid drive gear changer sensor. I have one on my home build. Problem is you can’t have a gear sensor and a e-brake cutoff so Dillenger have gone for safety over function on this one point. Bafang needs to build a splitter cable for the e-brake cut out plug which allows you to split into two plugs so you can have the e-brake as well as a gear sensor running on the same plug. Full points to you Dillenger for putting this one together – an almost complete off road unit bar the tyres. The ones on the bike aren’t off road knobblies which surprises me but its a minor swap out. (Posted on 30/09/2015)

The mid-drive kit slides through your bottom bracket and is screwed down tight on the other side with 2 hex screws tightened to 35-40nm of force. This is quite a bit of force and is typically how much force one person can generate with a hand tool using all of their might. One thing to note is that after two weeks of riding my bike, I had to re-tighten the mid-drive hex screws. I also had to re-tighten the screws holding my rear rack to the bike. Re-examining your bike for loose components is necessary for any bike, but even more so for electric bikes because the forces applied to them tend to be higher over time. Once you have the mid-drive kit installed on your bottom bracket the rest is pretty easy. Simply route the cables coming out of the motor to the designated locations on your bike.

The Dakine bag easily offered the most usable storage of any of the fanny packs in our review. It was also the best compartmentalized. One day I became fed up with all of my excuses for driving to work every day. During the summer I would ride my bike, but it would come in waves without any consistency. There is one huge hill climb to get to my work that is quite daunting, and is the main reason why most people take a vehicle, especially when you are running late. One day I said, screw it — I am going to put together an electric bike.

Trek’s latest e-bike isn’t simply about climbing higher, riding further or exploring more; it’s also about having a total blast in the process. With dialled geometry and great sizing the Powerfly 9 LT Plus lets you reap all the benefits of its 150mm travel ABP suspension on the descents, while the Bosch Performance CX motor gives you the control you need to attack the most technically challenging climbs. Yes, the battery rattle is annoying and the mount for the Bosch Purion display could be more robust, but neither were enough to distract from what is a truly capable bike.

At the same bike shop I also found a cargo rack that mounted over the rear tire. Next came a homemade bow rack consisting of a piece of aluminum tubing, purchased at a hardware store and a set of bow/gun holders designed to mount on an ATV rack or handlebars. To make the bow rack I attached the piece of aluminum tubing crossways at the farthest rearward portion of the cargo rack, using nuts and bolts, and then mounted the ATV bow/gun holder to that. It worked like a charm, and I was soon making it silently to my stand in a third of the time that it’d have taken me to walk.

Bike Rumor! DAKINE Sweeper Waist Hydration Pack is the one. It’s for paddling, and it’s what I’ve been using for a while for mtb. My bike, a Tracer 275 has no water bottle cages. I hate having a heavy, hot, sweaty nasty backpack style hydration pack sucking the life out of me! I have been using this for a while. It’s not perfect, but the imperfections outweigh the benefits of not being weighted down by a backpack. Unless you are going out for a 2+ hour trek, why would you need a giant 72oz hydration pack? The Dakine Sweeper also has a water bottle holder pouch. It’s the one!
After seeing these features, would you actually consider incorporating a bike into your hunt? The answer for me now is a definite yes, and when you see these things in action, you may be persuaded too.
I can see they would be useful in some of the places I hunt. However, most WMAs in Arkansas do not allow motorized access and the electric assist would likely not be permissible. Is Arkansas one of the states that do permit their use on public areas?
I don’t think the camo finish is important and tends to hide the bike when I’m searching for it in the woods. Other guys might like that but I am not really that into it. I have been tying an orange rag to the handlebars to help me out! It does look cool though and gets plenty of comments!

As you go hunting, you will realize that it is not enough for you to have the adventurous spirit and the adrenaline for the fun that you are about to have. In most instances, you’ll have to demonstrate preparedness, which will be impacted by having the right gear, gear such as that which is mentioned in the best hunting bow reviews.

If there’s one category in mountain biking that polarizes opinion more than any other it’s ebikes. It’s a complex debate that charged further because of issues with land access, trail sustainability and even the legislation governing the maximum speed of the bikes.
I can’t fault the componentry much. It is mostly mid/high end accessories and parts that match well with the price (especially now that it is around $400 cheaper than when I purchased it a few weeks ago, ouch!).
The EeMule is an awesome instrument in back country hunting! This Electric bike finally delivers the needs of the DIY hunter wanting to get in where others don’t travel. After using a bike for this upcoming season, I should have a lot better feel for how these questions will be answered. At this point, I can see all kinds of applications for them in scouting, checking game cameras, plus getting to and from a treestand. The advantage of being able to get around much more quickly could be huge.
The bike that I chose already had a setup for a rear rack. In the past this bike has been used for bicycle touring and I was confident in the rack’s ability to hold weight. I simply installed my rear rack and set the battery box on top of the rack. This was not a very good idea because the battery box was sliding all over the place.
In my opinion, the first item you should decide on is the electric motor. Traditionally the hub motor has been the most popular choice for electric bikes. With the hub motor you have two choices, geared hub motors and direct drive motors. Each type has its own pros and cons which can be viewed here: http://electricbikereport.com/electric-bike-direct-drive-geared-hub-motors/
As it turns out, what makes an e-bike tick isn’t really that different to a regular mountain bike. Sure, e-MTBs are a lot heavier and unless you’re taking performance-enhancing drugs, it’s unlikely that you’re blasting up every trail as quickly as you normally bomb down them.
The unit takes the cake when it comes to durability as it features a strong piece-layered limb. Additionally, you won’t have any trouble holding this bow as it makes sure that your grip is as firm as it can be considering that it http://bestelectrichuntingbike.com with bubbled grooves on the riser.
The 3G Stepper is a cross between a bicycle and a StairMaster; it rides like a bicycle but is propelled by a vertical motion with your feet on two decks on either side of the frame. You stand up while riding, and your upper body gets as good a workout…
Pinpointing the best hunting bow in 2018 starts with the acknowledgement of a couple of tips. Now, most archers usually shoot with a full draw length for enhanced precision during each hunting trip. With more length on the draw, archers will have improved power stroke, resulting in faster arrow speeds. The faster the arrow flies, the easier it will be for the archer to reach the target. During the selection process you have to keep in mind the draw weight, which is linked to the shooting position. The draw weight is important to the hunter’s capacity to manage the string. You should take into account that hunting bows with hard cams present more difficulties in drawing and in the of process shooting.  This is probably why expert hunters recommend people to choose bows with moderately fast cams, ideal for covering different hunting conditions.
In terms of how far you can go, there’s a big difference between a pedelec (pedal-assisted electric bike) and full-time electric bike. If you’re prepared to pedal and only need help on hills, you could get anywhere from 50 to 100 miles on a single charge with the former.
They also have a strong but lightweight cart you can pull behind your bike. Load it up with treestands, hunting gear, or pull your trophy whitetail out of the woods on it. This little workhorse can handle loads of up to 300 pounds!
After the batteries were connected in series I then wrapped the battery pack with duct tape to secure them together. After adding sufficient packing material to the empty battery box, I slid the battery pack into the box with a nice snug fit. I decided to add a 30 amp inline fuse to the positive battery terminal of the battery pack. You could also add the fuse to the negative terminal, but I believe it is standard to be installed on the positive terminal.
