I ran across a forum on www.bikeforums.net about using prismatic LifeP04 batteries for solar power storage (http://www.bikeforums.net/electric-bikes/900011-first-ebike-build.html). The second comment by turbo1859 caught my eye. I paid close attention to how he has previously constructed his battery packs using the prismatic cells. I ultimately chose these batteries for the simplicity of balancing the cells, and the ability to remove or replace cells in the future without having to rip apart the battery pack and remove the cells that are soldered together. I could simply replace a cell without having to solder a new one in series or parallel within the pack. The problem with these batteries is they are not lightweight. I believe all 4 packs weigh about 26 pounds.

There was no documentation in the box on how to set up or use my Bafang handle bar display. While riding I have no read out of speed or other information that I would expect to see on an eBike. I have to ‘tap’ my brakes to for the display to show me what power level (1-9) the motor is currently set at and to see how much battery charge is remaining (indicated as either 1-5 bars of power remaining). I suspect it’s a problem with the cadence sensor but I do not have the technical savvy to fix it without some help from Dillinger, which brings me to my next point.
What type of batteries are common? Well, Lithium ion batteries are becoming popular the world over so it’s no surprise to see them specced on e-bikes, too. Typically, you should get around 800 charge cycles from a battery before it bites the dust.
Both ponds have recently been stocked with rainbow trout. Our ADA accessible fishing pier is complete and ready to be fished from. Please contact the park about how we can provide an accessible fishing experience.
This unit is one of the best Diamond Archery bows for the money. It speaks to beginners and advanced users and comes with a number of features that are hard to say no to. It has an adjustable draw length and an adjustable draw weight that will leave you feeling pleasantly surprised. Besides, it has acquired some of the most remarkable reviews out there.
An “unthinkable” tragedy: Two people die in tree well accidents at Oregon’s Mt. Bachelor ski area. Officials called the powder ‘fluffy’ and ‘easy to ski.’ It brought thousands to the ski resort over the weekend. But those conditions also belied a very real danger: tree wells
Welcome to Sutton Estate Bicycle Hire in the Hunter Valley. Come and see the Hunter Valley by motor assisted bike and you will be amazed how easy they are to ride and make your experience so enjoyable. Peddle if you like, or don’t peddle up those hill if you don’t feel like it. A great fitness experience especially for corporate events/ families or large groups. Visit the many wineries in motorised style and enjoy the wind in your hair and experience your tour at you own pace.
I have phoned Dillinger twice (separate days) and was greeted with an answering machine on both occasions. I left a message asking them to get back to me and was hoping this could be done within 24 hours but alas this was not the case. So the after sales service is a little disappointing at the moment. 🙁
Marketed at bow and rifle hunters, the bike — called the CB4 — has a rack, big tires, and a camouflage frame (RealTree Xtra pattern). A tagline from the brand is: “We make gear for people looking to hunt, fish and forage in remote places.”
Of all the machines on this list, only one has been used as a commuting device, and has been driven thousands of miles. Hats off to Cedric Lynch for building the undisputed most practical speedster on this list. The Farfle bike deserves mention because he has claimed to put over 1,000 miles on this bike commuting.
You are missing the point dd. The point is that if pedaling is completely irrelevant then it’s not an electric pedal bike anymore; it’s an electric motorbike. Once electric bikes start hitting 40+ you may as well take off the pedals – they’re just getting in the way. If you want to start judging electric bikes on speed and range then gas bikes are going to win, since gas still has a way higher energy density than batteries. You dumb schmuck.
On their website, Camelbak states the FlashFlo was designed to carry a trail map, some snacks, a phone, wallet, and keys. I shoved a whole lot more than that into the two small compartments. The main compartment is shared with a 1.5 L hydration reservoir, while the smaller outer pocket has two internal mesh dividers, and a key ring.
A highly adjustable, feature-complete, city style electric bike with long fenders that have an integrated headlight and enclosed chain cover keep you clean and dry, integrated keyed-alike cafe lock adds convenience. Available in three frame sizes with the small and medium being wave and the large……
My first idea was to devise a means of carrying the bow across the handlebars somehow, but they were too narrow, and the handbrakes were in the way, so that proved impractical. The handlebars would have to serve another purpose. A visit to a local bike shop produced a large handlebar-mounted basket; perfect for carrying my backpack or other bulky items, it removes easily when not needed. A fanny pack fastened to the handlebars is another good option for carrying smaller items.
If you are concerned about the speed and power of an electric bike, pay attention to the motor size. Electric motor size is measured in watts and usually ranges between 250 and 750. When deciding on the appropriate amount of wattage, think about factors like the weight of the rider and the desired speed and terrain for the bike. If your child will mostly be on a flat surface, lower wattage should suffice; if they are planning to ride up and down hills, look for a bike with a larger motor.
But back on point, fanny packs can be cool, I guess. For all around versatility, the Osprey Talon is the obvious winner. Despite its questionable looks, it did the best job meshing hydration, storage, beer portage, and breathability.
Finding the balance between functionality, weight and aesthetics is no easy task—especially when it comes to electric bikes. With Biomega’s latest, the Biomega OKO designed in collaboration with Bkarje Ingels’ industrial design firm KiBiSi, all…
Brush motors are common because they’re durable and rather inexpensive to produce. However, modern brushless motors are lighter, smaller, and more powerful than brush motors, and they can be almost silent. E-bikes with brush motors cost more, but they require no maintenance. As a result, most electric bikes now have a brush motor.
I have tried all manner of bikes in the woods and this fat bike is the best. It’s quiet, forgiving on rough terrain and its stable. Some might call fat bikes a fad or gimmick but I think they’re wrong. I moved to a Pugsley for hunting years ago from a hard tailed mountain bike because it was just plain more fun.
The Dakine bag easily offered the most usable storage of any of the fanny packs in our review. It was also the best compartmentalized. There is spot for everything, although I often struggled to find things to fill it with. In addition to the items listed above as “required” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_bikes goods, it could accommodate a compact jacket, another beer, or even a 12 oz water bottle. Possible bonus points for being camo.
Battery costs vary enormously. Cheap batteries are available, but you just don’t know what you’re getting. Our advice is to buy only those recommended by the manufacturer. You’ll likely pay between $300 and $500, but the good news is you’ll only be buying one every few years.
Pinpointing the best hunting bow in 2018 starts with the acknowledgement of a couple of tips. Now, most archers usually shoot with a full draw length for enhanced precision during each hunting trip. With more length on the draw, archers will have improved power stroke, resulting in faster arrow speeds. The faster the arrow flies, the easier it will be for the archer to reach the target. During the selection process you have to keep in mind the draw weight, which is linked to the shooting position. The draw weight is important to the hunter’s capacity to manage the string. You should take into account that hunting bows with hard cams present more difficulties in drawing and in the of process shooting.  This is probably why expert hunters recommend people to choose bows with moderately fast cams, ideal for covering different hunting conditions.
With an electric mountain bike (or e-MTB) that gives you assistance up to 25kph, it’s possible to pack twice as much riding into the same amount of time. Those five great trails that you normally ride after work can now be ridden twice. That boring singletrack climb on your lunchtime loop suddenly becomes the highlight of your day. With the extra push from the motor it’s easy to double the distance covered, or do the same ride in half the time.
One of the most powerful, fastest accelerating, quietest, and beautifully designed electric bikes I have ever tested, premium drivetrain and custom battery. Surprisingly lightweight and well balanced front to rear considering the large 750 watt hub motor,……

But it doesn’t have ENDURO in it’s name! I kid. That bag does look rad. For this year, Dakine has also introduced a smaller version of the bag in this review….and the RaceFace Rip Strip also seems interesting.
Yet it’s our duty to report on the latest and greatest coming and goings of the industry, so since Tyler is a roadie, and Zach only rides fat bikes, I was somehow conned (I suspect alcohol may have been involved) into running an enduro bro fanny pack battle off. Yay me.
Unless your number one love in life is bikes, you probably don’t have every bike tool needed for this project. It is a really good idea to make friends with a bike mechanic at your local bike shop. Tell them what you are building and see if they have any good ideas. I did remove my crank set myself, but did not have the bottom bracket tools. I took my bike to the bike shop to have them remove my bottom bracket and install the mid-drive motor kit. I could have purchased the tools to do it myself, but he was able to do it for me in as little as http://electricbikediscounts.com minutes. They didn’t charge me because it was so quick — and because they would be making money on all of my bike accessory purchases (which is a really good business model and great customer support).
With a range of 20+ miles, the Big Easy is positioned to put e-bikes on the map in the US where approximately 100,000 were sold in 2012. This figure lags behind sales in Europe where 1.1 million e-bikes were sold last year and in China, where approximately 27Million were sold in the same period! The Big Easy hits the fastest growing segments of the bicycle market – the electric category and fat tire category. With trends of electric car sales continuing to grow in the US as well as the use of bicycles for commuting in general, Defiant is positioned to take advantage of these macro trends with its introductory model – the Big Easy.
After the batteries were connected in series I then wrapped the battery pack with duct tape to secure them together. After adding sufficient packing material to the empty battery box, I slid the battery pack into the box with a nice snug fit. I decided to add a 30 amp inline fuse to the positive battery terminal of the battery pack. You could also add the fuse to the negative terminal, but I believe it is standard to be installed on the positive terminal.
What type of batteries are common? Well, Lithium ion batteries are becoming popular the world over so it’s no surprise to see them specced on e-bikes, too. Typically, you should get around 800 charge cycles from a battery before it bites the dust.
Specialist off-road electric bikes aren’t legal for road use, so we’re not spending a lot of time on them in this review. However, you may be interested in learning a few facts about these monstrosities. They’re lightweight yet tough with fat, all-terrain tires, advanced brakes, and speeds in excess of 50 mph.
Before I started bowhunting, I had no idea of the joy that hunting unpressured deer brings. Only one other archer was in my hunting club, and those first few weeks before gun season started were truly wonderful.
The Game Tracker is a three wheel on and off road vehicle that allows you to hunt deep into the woods for your favorite game. Hit the woods with ease on this street legal vehicle; just load up your gear and supplies and you are ready for a day of hunting.
I then drilled a 3/4″ hole in the battery box to mount the keyed switch, followed by connecting the positive lead cables to the appropriate terminals on the switch assembly as indicated on the package material. With each wire connection, I made sure to use heat-shrink tubing at each cable termination. I then measured, cut, and installed the positive and negative cables needed to extend from the battery box to the XT90 connector and cable that connects to the motor. The motor came with an extra female end XT90 connector which I soldered onto the negative and positive cables from the battery box. I also use this female XT90 connector when charging the battery pack using the smart charger, since it has alligator clips and connects quite easily.
The basic geometry of the bike puts the user in an upright position, which is also good. It’s comfortable, lets you ride at low speeds in heavy clothes and still manage all the roots, ruts and rocks in the trail. The bike comes with really, really wide handle bars that add to easy steering.

As a note an electric skate board can also go to to fast, but that does not mean it should not be done by those that want to. There was a time I would want to do that but my time is passed for skateboarding days.
Admittedly, ATVs outperform bikes when it comes to one critical task: getting a deer out of the woods. Sorry, folks, but I’ve tried it all — plastic sleds, bike trailers, you name it — and there’s just no good way to lug dead weight with a bike.
Great bike, easy to ride, 1-9 levels on power [pas] just right,or use power from take off right up to top speed 50 kph,,did have to swap over front and back brake cables, front brake is now right hand lever, will buy another one ! (Posted on 26/11/2015)

What if, however, there was a First World solution that enabled you to ride more? We’re not talking about stretching the space-time continuum, knocking off early from work or making mountain bike orphans of your children every weekend… even if the solution is just as socially unacceptable to some. No, we’re talking about electric mountain bikes!
When turkey hunting odor is not an issue but for deer, predators, etc. using an electric bike would eliminate sweating, be quieter and reduce scent from boots verses walking. My walk ins are not bad but on public land the bike could get a hunter deeply in as well as reduce odor. However, In Arkansas I do not believe any motorized vehicle is allowed in our Ozark or Ouachita National Forests?

Upstart brand Live Out There this winter made its debut with a line of performance-oriented (but budget-friendly) jackets for the outdoors. We reviewed three models to see how they stack up in the cold.
Summary: I really like this bike. It is fast, real fast. I feel the Hunter is priced well for a 750W mid-drive off-road bike. My friends have all tried it and they have been impressed with it also. After sales service hasn’t been great in terms of answering their phones, and I still don’t know exactly how fast I’m going, but I don’t need to, I ride by feel not by the speedometer. A little attention to the tyre/tube issues and adding rim tape to the wheel would be advantageous for getting good reviews. 🙂 Having said all that, I would highly recommend buying this bike if you can afford it. 🙂 (Posted on 8/10/2015)
Some of you may remember an article I wrote in the early 2000’s about utilizing mountain bikes as a tool for hunting.  While the bikes were a great tool for eliminating scent and going quietly into the woods, they did have their drawbacks.  Under pedal power, I found I often arrived at my stand sweaty which was less than ideal. Even though mountain bikes were made for off road adventures, I often found that their tires were less than adequate for coping with fallen branches, rocks, and the like often found while hunting.
Getting to remote stands usually requires entering into the woods well before daylight; getting out requires long walks in the dark. Neither scenario makes for a silent passage. Striking a compromise between a quiet approach and a quick advance can be difficult — which is exactly what a mountain bike can offer.
Still, I strongly advocate swimming for mountain hunting. An hour of hard swimming gives you a good cardio effect, and it gives you a solid upper-body workout. Most people who do nothing but run or bike have weak upper bodies.
We’ve seen a few different electric fat bike designs in recent years, including 20-inch-tired clown bikes from Hanebrink and the Pedego Trail Tracker. We expect to see more of these bikes emerge because many US cities with big bike cultures – Portland, New York, Boulder and Minneapolis, to name a few – can have harsh, snowy winters. An electric bike designed to excel in snowy weather seems like a natural fit for commuters in these types of locations.
An all-mountain electric bike with plus sized tires for improved stability, traction and comfort, 150 mm air suspension with compression and rebound adjust. Battery and motor mount design are tighter than older Bosch systems, weight is kept low……
In August we reported on the Cogburn latest electric hunting bike a fat bike designed for hunters. The high-end bike ($2,199) has a scabbard for a gun, bow or fishing pole, 3.8-inch fat tires and a camouflage aluminum frame.
This bike is perfect for all hunters. Being from the mountains of PA I always had to pack all my gear and camping equipment into a backpack and by the time I reached my destination, I was exhausted. …The EEMule is a very powerful, very silent bike that has no trouble scaling tall mountains and rough terrain. I should also mention, this bike does great in the snow due to its wide tires. 10/10 and highly recommended. See More

If you’re looking for the best hunting bow for the money that you are looking to spend, you want to make sure that it is adjustable so that you can get the best range. This bow presses the limits of performance and is incredibly versatile. The draw length ranges from 13 to 30 inches. The draw weight can range from a mere 5 pounds to an incredible 70 pounds. With such a wide draw range, you can expect this bow to be dependable, no matter the distance the target. The Infinite Edge comes with an infinite draw setting that is ideal for training programs, beginners, and even bow fishers.

As I thought about this location and several others I have hunted, I began to realize that most of the properties I hunt have a network of access roads that are used by the DNR, and sometimes by farmers who have agreements to plant crops on the property. On that 1.5-mile trek, more than a mile of it could easily be ridden on a bike.
A new wave of companies in the U.S. rents these rugged campers (and some cool vintage vans, too). From modified vans to standalone adventure rigs to 4x4s, these rides will get you into the wilds in style.
The scabbard is both awesome and frustrating. Forever I have been just slinging the 12 gauge over my back. The first time I put the gun on the scabbard was freeing. It felt so good to get that blasted thing off my back and on the bike.
As a result, nowadays, FAT bikes are so much more than snow bikes. From winter riding, to desert sand dune sessions, to long-distance adventure touring, not to mention plain old-fashioned trail riding on your favorite patch of single-track, FAT bikes are showing up everywhere. FAT bikes are currently the fastest growing segment in the bicycling industry. Companies can’t make enough of them to keep in stock. That’s why we’re so excited about this opportunity. We wanted our first bike to make a splash, and what better way to do it than with the introduction of a Made in the USA electric FAT Bike?
Matt  Recumpence has been a pioneer in adapting powerful RC-motors to electric bikes (specifically the top of the line Astro Flight stuff). After building several super powerful bicycles, Matt decided on a trike for his own set of wheels where the weight of the battery is down low, and 3 wheels is better than 2 wheels when handling the incredible high power that the Astro motor puts out in high-speed turns. Matt sells his reduction drive kits to the public, and many in the DIY community have used these to build themselves scorchingly fast and lightweight RC-powered bikes. (see our article on this trike here)
Going through the best hunting bow reviews helped us to understand that there are a couple of things that separate good models from the not so efficient ones. Even though purchasing a hunting bow needs to be done in direct accordance with your hunting skills, there are some tricks of the trade that can help out. For instance, some bow hunters think that most bows with high let-off respond well to shooting changes. Now, using a 60-pound bow with a margin of 80% let-off might hold a steady 12 pounds at full draw. According to recent statistics it seems that bows with low let-off designs are easier to manage. Such hunting tools shoot fast and with full force. Due to the variety of shooting capabilities, compound bows respond well to changes on the ground which makes them the perfect hunting instruments.
The 750 watts of power is supplied to the rear hub by either pedal assist (the bike senses torque applied to the pedals and gives 5 levels of assist), or simply by the throttle integrated into the right hand grip.  The throttle will give you full assist on demand at any time.  The bike easily gets up to 20mph.  It will be a welcome break not having to pedal with all sorts of cold weather hunting gear, a backpack, and a weapon.

The frame is made of high quality heat-treated, double-butted A6N-6000AL tubing. Superior design and workmanship result in a high quality bike that is light, strong and responsive so you can go everywhere your hunts takes you.
While its burly build and big tires are all about rough weather, its e-assisted drivetrain is aimed at sure-footed, reliable commuting. Electric bikes like the Pedego Trail Tracker make riders choose between motored propulsion and pedaling, but the Big Easy uses a pedal-assisted powertrain that provides an extra boost to get riders from point A to point B a little faster, with a little less effort. Motor assistance can also be useful for carrying heavy gear or helping the rider muscle through a particularly tough, sticky track of snow.

The inspiration for the Defiant came from company founder Kevin Spreng’s frustration at the lack of appropriate winter bikes. An attorney and committed bike commuter from the Twin Cities, Kevin wanted a bike that he could ride to work and for fun year round, through the harshest Minnesota winters. There simply wasn’t anything on the market capable of getting him through the snow and slush that made riding a challenge for as many as 6 months a year in Minnesota.
The drivetrain combines a 500-watt rear hub motor and frame-mounted 36-volt lithium-ion battery, offering enough power for 20 miles (32 km) of range and 20 mph of speed. The pedal-assist motor output can be adjusted at the push of a button. The rider can also pedal the bike without any motor assistance and has nine speeds at his disposal. The 8.5-lb (3.9-kg) battery, which takes about four to five hours to charge to full, can be removed completely to create a lighter set-up.
“Pinky”  was sold and shipped to a wealthy Hong Kong business man and  Liveforphysics would go on to build faster and more powerful versions of  what he would now call the “Bicycle of Doom” culminating in track recorded speeds of 80-MPH and cranking power levels far exceeding 100,000 watts (not a misprint !!!). LFP would win a few races, but is known more for smoking countless electric motors on race day. Says him: “I do tend to lean on things a little harder than most folks.”
Lithium-ion polymer batteries have the same electrical properties as standard Li-ion batteries, but the material can be shaped more easily. There’s the potential for some interesting designs, though we’ve yet to see them.

Cogburn understands that there are people who use a bike as human-powered access to the backcountry to hunt and fish. It will be fun to see how other hunters use this machine and what innovations will be made to upcoming editions.

What exactly is an electric bike? How can they be used for transportation and why do they make financial sense? These are some of the questions my site http://electricbikereview.com and this channel aim to help you answer. This particular video provides an overview of the Easy Motion Neo Jumper ebike and then follows me on an actual commute to work in Austin Texas.
I absolutely adore my hydration pack in the way that one can only love an inanimate object they’ve carried for innumerable hours. That trusty bag has served as a makeshift pillow, hangover companion, beer tote, and trail buddy for years, yet now some reformed downhillers with moto envy have decided they’re uncool, so it’s suddenly time to trade that relationship in for a water bottle, some electrical tape, and a nylon murse.
The Hunter pack was designed by renown custom frame builder Rick Hunter, and handmade in Canada by Scott Felter – the man behind custom bike pack manufacturer Porcelain Rocket. As you’d expect from that introduction, it’s made from premium materials, with premium attention to detail, and has a premium price.
This modular functionality in my opinion is very important. And the fact that batteryspace.com’s products are designed and assembled in the USA is important to me. So I made my decision to go with these batteries. Of course I would have to buy four 12-volt packs and 16 LED balancing modules. I would also have to buy a 52-volt smart charger to charge all of the batteries when I wire them in series. A 52-volt charger would prevent me from having to babysit the batteries during the charging process, which was really important to me. The smart charger automatically cuts power when the batteries are full, preventing overcharging issues.

I can’t fault the componentry much. It is mostly mid/high end accessories and parts that match well with the price (especially now that it is around $400 cheaper than when I purchased it a few weeks ago, ouch!).
With the best hunting bow in 2018, hunters can explore their performance on the field. Woods become easier to manage and prey won’t escape so fast. The distance between the string and bow grip, brace height is also a thing to consider while browsing for a brand new product. Why? Well, brace height is responsible for the arrow’s speed and accuracy during each shot. Bows with a short brace height offer a long power stroke, for an accurate shooting experience. There are also bows with longer brace heights which offer a slower arrow speed.

I have done over 200 km on this bike so far and it lives up to its specs, especially its top speed and acceleration. There are bikes out there, specifically the Specialised Turbos, which are similar in specs but much higher in price point (+$2000) – so its definitely competitively priced. The only issue I have had on it is the battery life. However that’s because I am 104 kg and my backpack is usually 6 kg and I always ride it in the highest power output level, the higher gears, with little or no peddling, and I live in a hilly area (some hills being 50% incline) – so its expected I would get less range (I get a range of 15 km). If you’re completely new to ebikes, check out this short video overview and e-book guide that’s free on Amazon if you’ve got Prime. It’s full of pictures and examples to get you acclimated to the space. I’ve also done an in depth video interview about ebikes with my uncle since he has been riding one to work every day for over a year now.
Electric road bikes are still a rare sight on the roads, although a couple of big names such as Giant have produced models. For the most part, though, they’re concept bikes showing what might one day be possible with road frames, batteries and motors.
Foldability: Not all folding e-bikes are small. Some full-size electric bikes with standard 26-inch or 27.5-inch wheels can be folded to fit into compact spaces. Make sure you’re aware of a folding bike’s weight before you buy it, though. “Foldable” doesn’t always mean light.
Defiant has produced its prototype and two new versions of the Big Easy. All suppliers and vendors have been identified and contracted with. 30 frames have been manufactured and inventoried. All of these frames are 19 in frames with a 61cm top tube. Based on the success of the Big Easy on Crowd Supply, we plan to add more frame size options. The released product has been developed and built in the US.
Laws governing who can ride electric bikes, and where, vary from state to state. In some places, you can ride cycle paths; in others, you cannot. You may need a license – and even insurance – and there may be age limits.
The Motomoto home-built Santa Cruz is the fastest electric bike I have ever ridden (or heard of) which actually still  feels like a bike. The entire bike and power system weighs only 60-lbs, and puts out close to 10-HP with its 5-lb Astro motor that’s being fed 8000 watts. Ten horsepower on a light weight bike is an awful lot of power when its run through the pedal gears, and it can be seen propelling this Santa Cruz down-hill bike to 65-MPH on the following video:
At $75, the Hunter bag is not cheap. It also lacks the dizzying array of internal mesh pockets and fancy ventilated back panels of the other competitors, but it’s easily the highest quality. It’s also the perfect size. Unlike the other packs, some of which were designed with hiking or running in mind, the Hunter didn’t feel like a mini backpack. It was a no-nonsense bag with just the right amount of room. Plus it looks classy.
Tim was a great help when I was looking for a new bike. I’m really happy with my purchase. Will be going back to get my twin grandsons their first pedal bikes from them. Really knowledgeable good cust…omer service but not pushy. Really happy to see such a great store run by an awesome team. See More
I am missing your point. Your whole comment was comparing weight to hp ratios. I am saying that is absurd due to the fact we are talking about 60lb bicycles – not motorcycles. And by the way the new Zero MX is only 260lbs. It’s lighter then the Honda cfr450r which is Honda’s light weight comp bike of the same hp. It all depends on where you get your data points. But back to the bikes – have you not seen anyone pedal faster than 40mph? Should the Tour de France eliminate pedals? Their time trials average 34mph. You also have ultimate range on a bike, until your fat butt runs out of steam. Range on an ebike is about 30-100 miles on one charge. Don’t know anyone that really wants to go any further than that but I guess you can stop off and fill up your gas bike at around the same point. Gas bicycles suck. Let me say this again – this articles was about bicycles, not motorcycles, cars or scooters. These bikes technically can ride in the bike lane.
Only one of these builders it seems has made no attempt to make any money out of his electric bike creation, and in fact has spent probably more money per operational mile on his creation than anyone on this list. The independent spirit award goes to Liveforphysics, who seems to build his bikes for the pure fun and belief in promoting the electric bike cause. There is no “secret sauce” to LFPs creations…he shares all the info from his builds with pics, and his videos show the sheer joy on his face and also those around him.
The predator-afflicted can make stands for miles across the desert without the need of firing up a noisy vehicle. There is little doubt that e-bikes are vehicles of many applications, and they cost a fraction of their electric-powered counterparts.
Then it stopped abruptly to peer intently at something through the woods, head bobbing up and down as it strained to make sense of the object of curiosity — and I saw that my bike was actually much closer than I had realized, less than 10 yards from the matriarch. The animal finally seemed satisfied that the inanimate object was no threat and resumed feeding on white oak acorns.
MUSCULAR FITNESS. While cardio fitness builds a strong engine, muscular fitness builds a strong chassis. The buzz phrase these days is core fitness, but for good reason – a strong core supports the entire body. If your core melts down, the whole body goes with it. You see this in long races as runners start to slump and lose their posture. At that point, they’re toast. Think how much quicker it will happen in the mountains as you carry a bow and daypack and fight your way up steep slopes.
In my experience so far, I have had to charge my battery pack once a week. Even with pulling my child behind me to school and back everyday. However, I only ride about 7 miles round trip each day, but there is one major hill that drains the battery juice.
But my rationale for going cheap was that I knew from the onset of this project that my bike would be used for one purpose only: hunting. General abuse — crossing creeks and being tossed over barbed-wire fences, hidden in brushpiles and left outside for months at a time — was going to be the rule for this bike; it wouldn’t hang by hooks in the garage for very long.
There are a huge number of electric bikes to choose from. That can lead to confusion, but with a bit of thought, and the help of this e-bike report, it won’t take long to identify the best solution for your particular needs.
Around 90% of electric bikes are powered by standard lithium-ion batteries, but there have been further developments in the technology. These developments include lithium-ion polymer batteries, lithium manganese batteries, and lithium cobalt batteries.
Although nearly everybody on this list tried to make money off their electric bike ideas, 2 have seemed to make enough to make a living off of it. The entrepeneur spirit award goes to Cedric Lynch and Greasypants. Cedric Lynch’s motors are sold all over the world in high performance electric vehicle applications such as E-motorcycles, and Greasypants’ electric bike E-book is one of the most predominant electric bike products on the web, which is clearly sold at a great profit. Greasypants has a real knack for internet marketing.

Defiant is currently trying to raise funds on crowd-sourcing site CrowdSupply.com. A Big Easy with a 6061 aluminum frame (built in Portland, Oregon), Shimano XT components and disc brakes is being offered for US$4,495. That’s well over the price of the Trail Tracker but competitive with a Surly Moonlander outfitted with a comparable electric motor system. Other Defiant models are available for preorder on the company’s website.
An unpressured deer is a different animal: It moves around throughout the day, relaxed and casual in its movements. It strolls into open areas during daylight without even considering that it might need to look up into trees to check for humans.
The BBS-HD is a complete ground-up rework for the most powerful and efficient mid drive unit on the market. The BBS-02 was a 9 FET 25A system based on the BBS-01. The BBS-HD has grown a lot in size up to 12 FET and can comfortable churn out 30A all day long without missing a beat. The size of the motor considerably larger than the BBS-02 so we’ve designed a cover that partially conceals the motor. The BBS-HD comes custom spec’d with the patented GearSensor as standard which you will need on those gear shifts. The BBS-HD is at the limit of what is viable on an e-bike for a mid drive powerplant. The GearSensor works with the motor and intermittently inhibits the power from the motor during each gear shift, to ensure you don’t throw a chain or damage the shifter and derailleur. We’ve tuned this system so you don’t have to.
First and foremost, make sure that when wiring the lights and front switch you measure and connect your wires without them connected to the batteries. (This will prevent damaging your switch or newly purchased lights.) My main wiring goal was to power the head lights, the front horn, and tail lights all with one set of wires from the batteries.

The advantages of fat tire bikes are many. You can ride them over rough or muddy ground, even snow. They are geared for rough terrain and provide good traction and balance. They will ride right over small obstructions such as branches and rocks, obstacles that might trip up a normal mountain bike. These bikes are built to take the beating a hunter will dish out.

Virgin terrain is harder and harder to find, so Bengel and his team went East – all the way to the shores of the Bering Sea that sits between Alaska and Russia – and they found some of the freshest, most unspoilt land on the planet.
At the other end of the spectrum, a bike can be used purposely to lay down a scent trail. Try pouring your favorite estrous-doe urine into a small pump-spray bottle and spraying it onto a small spot on a tire. Every time that tire goes around it leaves an olfactory footprint just like a hot doe’s.
Fanny packs. If enduro wasn’t already the lamest marketing trend since 27.5″ wheels, the ass backwards 80’s fanny pack has suddenly reared its ugly head in some misguided sort of pseudo euro fashion statement. Damn it.
No contest here either. Cedric Lynch wins this hands down with his recumbent complete with aero-fairings. Car manufacturers do wind tunnel testing for a reason….the faster you go over 25-MPH, the more energy you will throw away to wind resistance. Going fast is very inefficient unless you can deal with the wind resistance factor…which Cedric has done.
* Weight training. Start with good old pushups and pull-ups. You can do them anywhere, and they build strong arms and shoulders just as they did 50 years ago in my school PE classes. For the legs do squats and lunges. Again, you can do these anywhere, and you can easily add weight to increase demand. In one hunting camp, I used a propane cylinder in place of a barbell while doing squats and lunges.

Rambo and Felt offer bikes with electric assist motors. The lithium ion batteries give you speeds of up to 20 mph and will travel 19 miles between charges on motor use alone. You can use the motor as a pedal assist if you like, which will give you even more distance on a battery. Sweating up a steep hill? Just switch on the motor for some assistance. There is some question about using the electric power on properties where no motorized vehicles are allowed, but a representative from Rambo told me the bike has been okayed by several state wildlife agencies.
After three years of rough use, the vinyl covering has held up surprisingly well, marred only by a few predictable chips and scuffs, and the olive drab base coat continues to prevent any glare or reflections.

Electric mountain bikes have also boomed lately. Obviously the attraction of getting to the top of the hills faster and easier is there for all to see. Similarly, that assistance can balance the drag of the knobbly tyres.
The Hunter is designed to look like a bicycle, but feel like a crossover between a bicycle, and an electric motorbike. This bike provides limitless fun, while riding a machine that still resembles a bicycle, not a motorcycle. More finesse goes into the design of product that has performance but is also subtle at the same time. This ‘best of both worlds’ was the design mantra for the Hunter range and the Hunter Mid Drive is the pinnacle.
The bicycle itself has always been a tool for me, a way to access hard to reach places. I have been hunting by bike for as long as I can remember being able to hunt and the Ruffed Grouse is my favorite quarry. There is no better tasting thing in the world in my opinion. You might as well lump Grouse, Lobster and Walleye together the best things you can pluck from nature, pour butter on and consume.

They also have a strong but lightweight cart you can pull behind your bike. Load it up with treestands, hunting gear, or pull your trophy whitetail out of the woods on it. This little workhorse can handle loads of up to 300 pounds!
In full-electric mode, the Pedego City Commuter Classic Electric Bike is capable of moving at up to 20 mph for anywhere from 15 to 30 miles. There are two further options: power-assisted pedaling or fully “unplugged” riding. Renowned Shimano gears are easy to select. Seldom do we come across a product so universally praised by owners. It’s not cheap, but comments like “Everything I hoped for!” and “Outstanding!” tell us that it’s money well spent.
Then it stopped abruptly to peer intently at something through the woods, head bobbing up and down as it strained to make sense of the object of curiosity — and I saw that my bike was actually much closer than I had realized, less than 10 yards from the matriarch. That’s my simple diet plan – quit eating like a pig (well, in terms of quantity). In short, you don’t have to become a diet fanatic to maintain an ideal hunting weight. Just cut out the excessive and unneeded calories (soda, beer, ice cream, rich deserts, pizza, etc.), and eat servings proportionate to your level of exercise. Follow this simple exercise/diet plan, and you’ll conquer the tallest of mountains and biggest of big game.

With its one-of-a-kind autumn camouflage design, this hunting bow makes a great weapon to use if your objective is stealth hunting. The compressed ABS limbs ensure long product life for years of use. This weapon helps develop archery skills.
Brakes: Caliper brakes (the type found on ordinary bicycles) are common on e-bikes, but disk brakes offer better stopping power. In wet conditions, however, initial braking can be slowed as you first clear water from the disk. It’s a minor thing, and you soon get used to it.

Though rear-wheel versions are available, most e-bike conversion kits are for the front wheel. They are easier to fit. However, they do change the balance of the bike, and brakes should also be uprated to cope with the additional weight. We’re not aware of any front hub motors on purpose-built electric bikes.

“I thought I’d give a fat tire snow bike a try,” Spreng explains. “It worked great on snow and ice, but it wasn’t fast enough for me. So, I put an electric motor on my snow bike. It was brilliant. Now I could go 15 to 20 miles per hour on snow-covered trails and roads while still getting a terrific workout. That’s really how Defiant Bicycles and the Big Easy model were born.”

If there’s one category in mountain biking that polarizes opinion more than any other it’s ebikes. It’s a complex debate that charged further because of issues with land access, trail sustainability and even the legislation governing the maximum speed of the bikes.
The earliest episodes with John Amos as the captain were silly. His continuing bad attitude toward them in the face of their success was unrealistic. Beyond that, however, the entire series was great. It suffered some after Stepfanie Kramer left, but it was still good.

Electric bikes do, indeed, come in folding bike form. The Vektron by Tern features 20 inch wheels, and a Bosch battery that can reach 20mph. Each charge of the battery will see it last from 40 to 80 miles, depending how much you use it.
Here, it’s very much a case that you get what you pay for, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for big household names like Bosch. Shimano are increasingly involving themselves in the world of assisted pedalling, too.

You’re probably thinking that if you can pack twice as much riding into the same amount of time, then surely the bikes are going to wear out twice as fast? The short answer is, yes! And if you’re always riding the same trails, that means more wear and tear on Mother Nature.
There is no denying that e-bikes bring a whole new dimension to the term drivetrain, and with them come new players to the world of mountain biking. Bosch, Shimano, Brose and Yamaha are vying for pole position in this burgeoning category.
In full-electric mode, the Pedego City Commuter Classic Electric Bike is capable of moving at up to 20 mph for anywhere from 15 to 30 miles. With its 4.7-inch tires, the Big Easy is among the “fattest” of the fat bikes on the market. Those fat tires can be deflated to pressures as low as 7 psi, increasing their surface area to better “float” through soft terrain. Big, cushy tires also add a sort of suspension system, smoothing out bumps and ruts.
Size: Some electric bikes look a little small, but if you’re going to drive to the edge of the city and ride the last couple of miles, a light, folding model that you can easily throw in the trunk has definite advantages.
Two big trends that have stormed the bicycle industry over the past few years are pedal-assisted electric drivetrains and fat tires. These two trends converge in Defiant Bicycles’ Big Easy. Unlike other electric bikes that stop at the edge of the street, the Big Easy keeps rolling over some of the toughest, most sluggish terrain on Earth – everything from hot sand to cold, mushy snow.
At the outset of our electric mountain bike testing we were convinced that the deciding factor would be the performance of the motor. Could a small independent company like Brose compete with a household name like Bosch, and what, if anything, would Yamaha — with its wealth of experience in motorcycles — bring to this e-bike roundtable?
Batteries: Battery packs can be fitted in all kinds of different positions, but often, they are fixed to a rack behind the rider. If you plan on carrying anything, this configuration could be problematic.
If you’re new to hunting, you want to find the best hunting bow for a beginner and that is the Bear Archery Brave Bow Set. The set includes 2 safety glass arrows, an arm guard, two piece arrow quiver, pin sight, and an arrow rest. This set has everything that your young hunter may need to get out there and land their first catch.
The Impulso e-Road is Bianchi’s take on a “normal” looking e-bike. It’s different from the Cube Agree C:62 though because it uses a Polini E-P3 motor rather than a Fazua one. It’s still integrated into the down tube, though.

The last e-bike component we’re going to discuss is the throttle. A few e-bikes use levers much like you’d find on some lawn mowers. Some just have a button, but most use motorcycle-style twist grips. These give a positive feel and more precise control.
Here are two more advantages I see: One is the reduction in scent impact when travelling in my hunting area. My boots are not touching the ground, and I will be moving faster, leaving less signs of my intrusion that might alarm deer. Secondly, I ride a bike quite a bit on trails through wooded areas near my home, and I see that deer react much differently to a person on a bike than they do to a person on foot. They don’t see a person sitting on a pair of wheels as nearly the threat that they perceive a person walking. I’m not sure how much that will be an advantage, but spooking deer while scouting and travelling to and from a hunting location could be reduced.
