“camouflage mountain bike tires -how to build a motorbike”

Greasypants not only built a clean looking Crystalyte hub motor powered 50-MPH bike and documented it on youtube, but he also created a book on how to build such a bike. He sells his book on the web for $50. For the last few years he has had a great presence on google searches, and has managed to make himself a few dollars while spreading the word on how to build an electric bike.
I think the market will mature with manufacturers making e-bikes limited to 20mph. All the effort by manufacturers to make electric vehicles that are street legal and go faster than 20mph will be towards electric motorcycles, scooters, and cars which will need licenses and insurance. Of course there will always be garage builders making whatever they want but they will be a minuscule segment of the market.
At the outset of our electric mountain bike testing we were convinced that the deciding factor would be the performance of the motor. Could a small independent company like Brose compete with a household name like Bosch, and what, if anything, would Yamaha — with its wealth of experience in motorcycles — bring to this e-bike roundtable?
We also have new metrics with which to compare bikes, toque, power and battery life, not just travel, geometry and weight. It’s an amazing time to be testing bikes and this month we have four of the most exciting ebikes on the market.
A fun, classic looking electrified tricycle designed for adults, it’s easy to mount, stable to ride and very adjustable in terms of speed and power, (go from 3 mph to 14 mph or slow reverse). Includes a rubber-coated metal basket that’s perfect for storing groceries, supplies or the included charger……
Only one of these builders it seems has made no attempt to make any money out of his electric bike creation, and in fact has spent probably more money per operational mile on his creation than anyone on this list. The independent spirit award goes to Liveforphysics, who seems to build his bikes for the pure fun and belief in promoting the electric http://huntnbike.com cause. There is no “secret sauce” to LFPs creations…he shares all the info from his builds with pics, and his videos show the sheer joy on his face and also those around him.
The Genesis is a winner in regards to durability, as it features a machined aluminum riser and ProCam and machined idler wheel. The limbs are competition composite and the cable guard is Teflon coated stainless steel.
More often than not, hunters try to use a bow that has too much draw weight so they can get more speed when they shoot their arrows. Ideally, you will want to find the right amount of draw weight that will allow you to pull back smoothly and hold the arrow steady while you are taking aim. This smooth action should be so minute, that the animal will not be able to detect you.
* Weight training. Start with good old pushups and pull-ups. You can do them anywhere, and they build strong arms and shoulders just as they did 50 years ago in my school PE classes. For the legs do squats and lunges. Again, you can do these anywhere, and you can easily add weight to increase demand. In one hunting camp, I used a propane cylinder in place of a barbell while doing squats and lunges.
The predator-afflicted can make stands for miles across the desert without the need of firing up a noisy vehicle. There is little doubt that e-bikes are vehicles of many applications, and they cost a fraction of their electric-powered counterparts.
The benefits are clear to see: it takes less effort to ride, meaning you get less sweaty. It’s easier to haul heavy luggage around and still cycle. You can keep pace and feel more comfortable in traffic – fit them with a rack and mudguards and you’ve got a seriously practical bike.
Presented at Eurobike 2010 (where it took home a Gold Award for innovation), the Schwinn Vestige is finally hitting the mainstream market, selling in stores across the U.S. toward the end of July 2011. The biodegradable bike is made from recyclable…
That Giant DH Comp is aluminum. Note the fat weld beads. Aluminum weld beads are 3x as fat as steel beads. Aluminum is 1/3 the weight, 1/3 the strength, but can be made 3x the diameter of chromoly for the same weight. That, and lower material, and fabrication costs, is why all major firms now use it, almost to the exclusion of chromoly.

Trek’s latest e-bike isn’t simply about climbing higher, riding further or exploring more; it’s also about having a total blast in the process. With dialled geometry and great sizing the Powerfly 9 LT Plus lets you reap all the benefits of its 150mm travel ABP suspension on the descents, while the Bosch Performance CX motor gives you the control you need to attack the most technically challenging climbs. Yes, the battery rattle is annoying and the mount for the Bosch Purion display could be more robust, but neither were enough to distract from what is a truly capable bike.

A relative newcomer to the scene is what is called a mid-drive electric motor. The mid-drive electric motor is not installed in your front or rear wheel hub, but attached to your front drive system. The main advantage to this system is the ability to use your own bike’s rear derailleur to change gears. The motor has its optimum rpm speed which you can sense when riding the bike. When the chain spins really fast, but your speed doesn’t increase, you simply change to a lower gear in the rear to get the perfect combination.

The first 1,720-acre parcel of land was donated to then Colorado State Parks in 1986 by Frances Hornbrook Staunton. Subsequent parcels of land were added over the years to make up the now 3,828 acre park. Read more about the story of Staunton State Park at our history page.
I previously used standard battery type rear and front lights. However I have grown tired of constantly changing their batteries and or charging the batteries. I wanted a system where I could run the lights from the main battery pack. Unfortunately, most bike shops don’t offer these lights so you have to search specialty scooter stores or other e-bike online sites. Once I found the 48V wired lights it was a matter of installing them on the bike. Most rear pannier racks have a mounting bracket for a tail light.
During an afternoon hunt, I’d followed my customary practice and stashed my bike in some brush. With just a few minutes of daylight left, I saw a coyote approaching over my right shoulder, just trotting along at first. Suddenly it crossed the path that my bike’s doe-urine-anointed tires had rolled down as I rode in. Immediately picking up the olfactory cue, it crouched low to ground and began belly-crawling towards my bike, stopping to sniff each spot of deer scent left by the rubber. It stalked right up to the brushpile, and I believe that it fully expected to see a young doe bedded there.

@Frippolini – Endurobros don’t wear typical cycling jerseys, skin-tight lycra is clearly for roadies on wagon wheels. The freshest kits from Troy Lee Designs is where it’s at. And those don’t have pockets.
An electric bike – often know as an e-bike – is basically a motor assisted ride. For the most part, they are a combination of a conventional bike with a battery and a motor, which takes some of the effort out of pedalling.
What if, however, there was a First World solution that enabled you to ride more? We’re not talking about stretching the space-time continuum, knocking off early from work or making mountain bike orphans of your children every weekend… even if the solution is just as socially unacceptable to some. No, we’re talking about electric mountain bikes!
Rambo also has several accessories for the hunter in mind. They have a universal gun and bow holder that you can attach directly to the bike frame. That way, you can focus on biking through the rugged terrain, while knowing your weapon is safely secured to the bike.

Anyone toying with the idea of getting an e-bike need not look further than the Super 73 from California’s Lithium Cycles, already fully funded on Kickstarter. We took the electric bicycle out on the streets of NYC to test the brand’s product claims…
To all that sit back and bash fanny packs, have you actually worn any of the products tested? Have you ever felt how nice it is to have nothing on your back and shoulders? A relatively small load – what, 3-4 pounds max? – carried by a well-designed waist strap is not going to constrict your waist or hamper breathing. Since you’re probably shuttling up, instead of earning your descent, there’s not going to be much huffing and puffing anyway if your body protests. Also, those of you with a waist size larger than your hips are inherently exempt, since the pack will constantly be sliding off your [trendy and expensive beer] gut…
What type of batteries are common? Well, Lithium ion batteries are becoming popular the world over so it’s no surprise to see them specced on e-bikes, too. Typically, you should get around 800 charge cycles from a battery before it bites the dust.

I don’t think the camo finish is important and tends to hide the bike when I’m searching for it in the woods. Other guys might like that but I am not really that into it. I have been tying an orange rag to the handlebars to help me out! It does look cool though and gets plenty of comments!
So before I crown a victor, let me put this out there – I am not entirely sold on the fanny pack. Maybe I’ll be completely alone on this, but hydration bags are just so damn convenient. Why spend time awkwardly fumbling around for a water bottle when you can run a spigot straight to your face? Hell, I stay better hydrated when I wear a bag because it’s so much easier and I’m not worried about running out of water. Not to mention that I don’t have to worry about salmonella because maybe my carbon wonder bike only has one water cage, and it’s located in the most inaccessible place imaginable.
@Frippolini — I hate giant hydration packs for anything but the longest of rides. most full suspension bikes only have provisions for one bottle cage, that means on hot days or longer rides I’ll want a second bottle.

The e-JOE Epik’s thumb throttle is not the most intuitive (it’s a bit like some powered lawn mowers), but you soon get used to it. The handlebar-mounted display could be easier to understand. These minor negatives aside, owners love the e-JOE Epik’s practicality and reliability. It delivers precisely what you expect from a folding electric bicycle.
After using a bike for this upcoming season, I should have a lot better feel for how these questions will be answered. At this point, I can see all kinds of applications for them in scouting, checking game cameras, plus getting to and from a treestand. The advantage of being able to get around much more quickly could be huge.

Typically, you’re more likely to find a hub mounted motor on cheaper e-bikes. While they do have the advantage of being perhaps a little bit more quiet, they often can’t handle the hills quite as well.
The inspiration for the Defiant came from company founder Kevin Spreng’s frustration at the lack of appropriate winter bikes. An attorney and committed bike commuter from the Twin Cities, Kevin wanted a bike that he could ride to work and for fun year round, through the harshest Minnesota winters. There simply wasn’t anything on the market capable of getting him through the snow and slush that made riding a challenge for as many as 6 months a year in Minnesota.
One day I became fed up with all of my excuses for driving to work every day. During the summer I would ride my bike, but it would come in waves without any consistency. There is one huge hill climb to get to my work that is quite daunting, and is the main reason why most people take a vehicle, especially when you are running late. One day I said, screw it — I am going to put together an electric bike.
Visually, the Pedego City Commuter Classic Electric Bike is stunning – a smart blend of yesteryear’s style and today’s technology. Pleasantly high handlebars, a sprung seat, and lovely Schwalbe Fat Frank tires make it very comfortable. Stopping is taken care of by powerful disk brakes, front and rear. Lights are included, as is a useful cargo rack. From an e-bike standpoint, the Pedego Classic City Commuter sports a reliable, hub-mounted motor driven by a 36-volt, 10-amp battery. There’s a digital display with a trip computer, odometer, speedometer, pedal assist level, and battery charge information.

Electric bikes are a green alternative to driving a vehicle. Studies carried out in several towns and cities show that the average car speed in rush hour traffic can dip as low as 18 to 20 mph. Electric bike speed can be as high as 15 mph. With an electric bike, you can reduce pollution, improve fitness, and still arrive at the same time as your car-bound colleagues.
Swimming – and water jogging – work wonders if you’re injured or badly out of shape. While preparing for the Boston Marathon, a friend of mine hurt his Achilles tendon and couldn’t run. So the last two months before the race he jogged in the pool (up to two hours per session!) to stay in shape. Without the impact of running on solid ground, his Achilles healed, and he ran Boston in 3:30.
The first step in building the ultimate hunting machine is picking out the bike. Personally, I didn’t want to invest a lot of money. A more passionate cyclist might criticize me on that point, arguing that you get what you pay for, and in retrospect, I might be inclined to agree with that view, as the model that I chose has required several repairs and upgrades over the past few years.
Yet it’s our duty to report on the latest and greatest coming and goings of the industry, so since Tyler is a roadie, and Zach only rides fat bikes, I was somehow conned (I suspect alcohol may have been involved) into running an enduro bro fanny pack battle off. Yay me.
The earliest episodes with John Amos as the captain were silly. His continuing bad attitude toward them in the face of their success was unrealistic. Beyond that, however, the entire series was great. It suffered some after Stepfanie Kramer left, but it was still good.
Over the past few years we’ve immensely enjoyed sharing the backcountry with you, but the time has come for Cogburn to close our doors. It is a common occurrence for many of us to regret the fact that we did not learn about archery at a young age. With this, the only thing that we can do is to make sure that our kids learn about it as soon as they are able to understand the beauty of the sport. In the case of this model, being one of the top rated hunting bows in 2018, it can prove to be the perfect choice for young people who would like to master archery.
If you have access to a gym with free weights or machines, do leg presses (squats), lunges, toe raises, knee extensions, bench presses, biceps curls, and triceps extensions. This regimen will strengthen most of the muscles you use in hunting.
Small lightweight crimp connectors were used to connect the wires. The positive and negative wires from the battery were soldered to provide extra strength. All wires were then heat shrinked and wrapped with electrical wire to create the wiring harness.
If you type “diy electric bike” in your favorite search engine, you will find a barrage of information from electric drill bikes to the top 10 most expensive electric bikes. The information can be daunting and lead you in many directions, only to cause confusion with so many choices.
The problem with my bike was that there was not a top mounting plate for a kickstand. There was, however, a small opening in my frame for the bolt to extend through. You have got to check out the tire lever that I modified to become the top mounting plate for the kickstand. It works really well, and I have not had to re-tighten or mess with it yet! Simply cut a tire lever with a hack saw to match the width of your frame. And then carve a similar curve with a knife or saw on the other side. Tire levers have this circular indention on one side, and that is exactly where I drilled my hole to fit the kickstand bolt. And voila! The kickstand works great!
Today I’m going to spill the beans on three new items of riding gear I’ve been getting friendly with. Each piece is pretty stylish and stealthy, in my humble opinion, but it’s the integrated safety tech that stands out with these.
It wasn’t long before I was using my bike for other hunting chores, like hanging tree stands. Of course, you’re not going to carry a ladder stand through the woods on a bike, but lock-on type stands and even some climbers are easy to strap to the rack. By using the front basket to carry a bag of screw-in tree steps, a safety harness and a haul line, and tasking the rear rack to carry the stand, hauling my entire set-up to even remote parts of my hunting property was a simple affair.
Elsewhere, tyres tend to be fatter, even on the road bike options you can expect up to 32mm of rubber to be specced. The extra rubber helps absorb the impacts of the heavier frame as well as provide more grip and stopping power to balance the extra weight and speed.
Summary: I really like this bike. It is fast, real fast. I feel the Hunter is priced well for a 750W mid-drive off-road bike. My friends have all tried it and they have been impressed with it also. After sales service hasn’t been great in terms of answering their phones, and I still don’t know exactly how fast I’m going, but I don’t need to, I ride by feel not by the speedometer. A little attention to the tyre/tube issues and adding rim tape to the wheel would be advantageous for getting good reviews. 🙂 Having said all that, I would highly recommend buying this bike if you can afford it. 🙂 (Posted on 08/10/2015)

It seems the “enduro” mtbing category has pretty much ripped off the Enduro dirtbikers completely. First, the helmets, then the racing format (Time trial style), then the fannypacks for tools, now even Schwalbe’s “new” tire chambered system copies the motos! What’s next? The engine? Oh wait…
Mountain bikers love to moan. If we’re not complaining about the advancing tide of new standards, then we are bitching about never having enough time to ride our soon-to-be-out-of-date bikes. Talk about First World problems!
Colorado’s newest state park opened to the public on May 18, 2013. The park is located approximately 40 miles southwest of downtown Denver, north of US Highway 285 and about six miles west of Conifer. The Park sits divided between Park and Jefferson counties, in Pine, Colorado.
Minimalism meets all-mountain functionality in the next great line of multi-sport tents. We reviewed the ultralight Ultamid 2 tent in Mexico, Colorado, and the Sierras. Made from Dyneema fabric, this is one tough, expensive tent.
The BBS-HD is a complete ground-up rework for the most powerful and efficient mid drive unit on the market. The BBS-02 was a 9 FET 25A system based on the BBS-01. The BBS-HD has grown a lot in size up to 12 FET and can comfortable churn out 30A all day long without missing a beat. The size of the motor considerably larger than the BBS-02 so we’ve designed a cover that partially conceals the motor. The BBS-HD comes custom spec’d with the patented GearSensor as standard which you will need on those gear shifts. The BBS-HD is at the limit of what is viable on an e-bike for a mid drive powerplant. The GearSensor works with the motor and intermittently inhibits the power from the motor during each gear shift, to ensure you don’t throw a chain or damage the shifter and derailleur. We’ve tuned this system so you don’t have to.
A few electric bikes incorporate a technology that started in racecars: regenerative braking. When you brake, you create energy. That energy can be harvested and fed back into the battery, prolonging its life. Regenerative braking is only just being introduced to e-bikes, but it’s certainly something to watch out for.
Swimming. Building cardio endurance by swimming can take even longer than by running and biking because the water supports your weight and you recruit smaller muscles. You have to go all-out to reach the same heart rate you would achieve easily in running.
But it doesn’t have ENDURO in it’s name! I kid. That bag does look rad. For this year, Dakine has also introduced a smaller version of the bag in this review….and the RaceFace Rip Strip also seems interesting.
Defiant Bicycles Big Easy crosses the boundaries of utilitarian purpose and the simple joy of riding as fast as 20 miles per hour through impossible elements like drifted snow or a heavily sanded beach with all of the convenience and greenness of a bike combined with the unbridled joy of a Vespa.

Pinpointing the best hunting bow in 2018 starts with the acknowledgement of a couple of tips. Now, most archers usually shoot with a full draw length for enhanced precision during each hunting trip. With more length on the draw, archers will have improved power stroke, resulting in faster arrow speeds. The faster the arrow flies, the easier it will be for the archer to reach the target. During the selection process you have to keep in mind the draw weight, which is linked to the shooting position. The draw weight is important to the hunter’s capacity to manage the string. You should take into account that hunting bows with hard cams present more difficulties in drawing and in the of process shooting.  This is probably why expert hunters recommend people to choose bows with moderately fast cams, ideal for covering different hunting conditions.
The first flat was on the rear wheel and it happened on the first day of riding. The puncture was directly over where the tube sits on the wheel, and I noted the following (a) there was no ‘rim tape’ to protect the tube from the wheel, (b) the tube had an actual inflated internal diameter of approx. 22 1/2″ to 23″ (even though it said it had a 26″ diameter) and was only 1 1/8 ” wide.

I continued the camouflaging process with adhesive vinyl in a popular camo pattern that a local sign company was able to order for me. The same material sometimes used to cover golf carts and panels on vehicles so I knew it would be sturdy. Applying it was more time-consuming than http://electricbikeprices.com anticipated, but in a few hours, the entire frame and several other parts were completely covered. (One tip: Putting the tape on in small pieces works much better than does trying to cover the whole thing at once. The small pieces blend together so well that everyone who’s seen the bike assumes that it was film-dipped.) The vinyl applied, I finished by breaking the remaining olive drab areas up with flat gray, tan, brown and black spray paint.
In August we reported on the Cogburn CG4, a fat bike designed for hunters. The high-end bike ($2,199) has a scabbard for a gun, bow or fishing pole, 3.8-inch fat tires and a camouflage aluminum frame.
As is the case with the product we’ve described earlier on, this one fits the needs of absolute beginners and advanced adults. It might not come with the same equipment as the Infinite Edge unit, but it’s well-made and does what it’s supposed to do.
I have done over 200 km on this bike so far and it lives up to its specs, especially its top speed and acceleration. There are bikes out there, specifically the Specialised Turbos, which are similar in specs but much higher in price point (+$2000) – so its definitely competitively priced. The only issue I have had on it is the battery life. However that’s because I am 104 kg and my backpack is usually 6 kg and I always ride it in the highest power output level, the higher gears, with little or no peddling, and I live in a hilly area (some hills being 50% incline) – so its expected I would get less range (I get a range of 15 km). They all have relatively long chainstays too, which further boosts stability. While this is normally related to tyre size, the orientation of the motor plays an even bigger part, which is why the Giant has the longest chainstays, even though it has the smallest wheel size.

Rambo and Felt offer bikes with electric assist motors. The lithium ion batteries give you speeds of up to 20 mph and will travel 19 miles between charges on motor use alone. You can use the motor as a pedal assist if you like, which will give you even more distance on a battery. Sweating up a steep hill? Just switch on the motor for some assistance. There is some question about using the electric power on properties where no motorized vehicles are allowed, but a representative from Rambo told me the bike has been okayed by several state wildlife agencies.

Zombiess is a builder who is bringing to market an oversized 25-lb hub motor (a large version of the 9C) which was designed for large 45-MPH Chinese electric scooters, but some daring E-bike  builders such as Zombiess have recently been adapting them to electric bikes, and of course…upping the voltage! Just like the Crystalyte 5304, Hubzilla motors are extra wide and they need a custom-built extra-wide frame. You’re probably thinking that if you can pack twice as much riding into the same amount of time, then surely the bikes are going to wear out twice as fast? The short answer is, yes! And if you’re always riding the same trails, that means more wear and tear on Mother Nature.
One tactic that Cedric uses to achieve high speeds is by following the rules of aerodynamics, and building a bike that is as aerodynamic and as efficient as possible. The other builders on this list bypassed this step, and Cedric uses this bicycle as daily transportation on real commutes. (read our article about Cedric here) Although this high-efficiency motor uses “old school” brushes, this fact allows builders to use very affordable controllers. He has proven his design choices through thousands of miles of commuting, and the Lynch motor is highly respected.
Purpose-designed electric made for extreme off-road use with a 1000-watt mid-drive motor, 17.5 ah battery and top speed upwards of 40 mph, it looks like a bicycle but is classified more as a moped. Extra large 203 mm, quad piston, hydraulic disc brakes provide ample stopping power, which is……
Unless your number one love in life is bikes, you probably don’t have every bike tool needed for this project. It is a really good idea to make friends with a bike mechanic at your local bike shop. With a mission of making an electric bike as affordable and fun as gas-powered motorcycles, electric vehicle experts Brammo, Inc. recently partnered with Italy’s S.M.R.E. Engineering to produce four new models with a revolutionary six-speed drivetrain…
Cedric Lynch not only built his electric bike around a mid-drive, but also built one of the worlds most efficient light weight motors to power his rig reliably at 60-MPH for great distances. He would later set several world records with his axial flux motor and bring it to market as the Lynch / Agni motor. Briggs and Stratton would eventually buy this technology which would lead to the Etek motor, which is now famous for making high speed efficient electric hot rods (see our story on the original e-bike hot rodders).
If this were a beauty contest the Specialized Turbo Levo FSR Comp 6Fattie would have wooed the judges with its stunning aluminium frame, dazzling LED control pad, clever design and easygoing personality. It helps too, that it’s the most robust design in this test. Get past its devilish good looks, however, and you quickly realise that the Turbo Levo isn’t without fault. Power delivery from the Brose motor can be a little erratic, especially if you prefer to spin rather than mash on the pedals, and the frame sizing isn’t as generous as the Trek.

At the same time, on a bike you can push yourself to the point of exhaustion without the pounding and pain you might suffer from running. Personally, I can ride a bike to exhaustion (three hours or longer), and suffer no residual effects, whereas running at that exertion level would lay me up for two or three days.
Founded in 1999, Michigan-Sportsman.com started as a collection of links to Michigan related sites, and a series of manually edited blogs. It was a marriage of my passions for the outdoors and the internet. In late 1999 we started our first message board. After going through 3 different message board softwares, we settled on one in late 2000. Photo galleries, classifieds, product reviews were added in later years. It was a social network before the term was coined. Users have self organized get togethers and many are have formed long lived friendships with others who share the same interests in the outdoors through the site. Thanks for your patronage – Steve
The Panasonic NCR 18650GA 3,500mAh cells are know for their enormous 10A (per cell) discharge potential, making them ideal for a high powered off road electric bike. A careful consideration in the design of any electric vehicle systems is the balance of capability between the individual cell, battery pack, BMS (battery management system), controller and motor. The design discharge potential of the cell type should always be higher than the discharge requirement of the pack and the pack should be more capable than the design requirements of the BMS. The discharge capability of the battery and BMS together should then be higher than the requirements placed on the pack by the motor and controller. So when we put together the Hunter with the high current and voltage demands, only the Panasonic high power cells were fit for the task.
The last e-bike component we’re going to discuss is the throttle. A few e-bikes use levers much like you’d find on some lawn mowers. Some just have a button, but most use motorcycle-style twist grips. These give a positive feel and more precise control.
As a result, nowadays, FAT bikes are so much more than snow bikes. From winter riding, to desert sand dune sessions, to long-distance adventure touring, not to mention plain old-fashioned trail riding on your favorite patch of single-track, FAT bikes are showing up everywhere. FAT bikes are currently the fastest growing segment in the bicycling industry. Companies can’t make enough of them to keep in stock. That’s why we’re so excited about this opportunity. We wanted our first bike to make a splash, and what better way to do it than with the introduction of a Made in the USA electric FAT Bike?
At the end of the day though, the one fanny pack I actually want to wear is the Hunter. While all of the other bags were so big they left me wondering why the hell I left my backpack at home, the little Hunter bag felt just right. With just enough room for beers, a compact riding jacket, my phone, a wallet, and a miscellaneous item or two, I actually found myself (to my eternal shame) wearing it all the time on short rides or around town. No, it hasn’t replaced my Camelbak on enduro rides, but now I certainly understand what enduro bros keep raving about in those online forums.
With its 4.7-inch tires, the Big Easy is among the “fattest” of the fat bikes on the market. Those fat tires can be deflated to pressures as low as 7 psi, increasing their surface area to better “float” through soft terrain. Big, cushy tires also add a sort of suspension system, smoothing out bumps and ruts.
Felt founder Jim Felt, an avid bow hunter, wanted to design a rig that could shlep gear far into the backcountry for multi-day hunting trips. His answer: the concept Bosch-powered Outfitter than can haul a trailer with up to 100 pounds of equipment. The trailer we saw at the show was a modified model from B.O.B., but Felt is apparently working on a design of its own for 2015.

“I thought I’d give a fat tire snow bike a try,” Spreng explains. “It worked great on snow and ice, but it wasn’t fast enough for me. So, I put an electric motor on my snow bike. It was brilliant. Now I could go 15 to 20 miles per hour on snow-covered trails and roads while still getting a terrific workout. That’s really how Defiant Bicycles and the Big Easy model were born.”
Though rear-wheel versions are available, most e-bike conversion kits are for the front wheel. They are easier to fit. However, they do change the balance of the bike, and brakes should also be uprated to cope with the additional weight. We’re not aware of any front hub motors on purpose-built electric bikes.
The bike that I chose already had a setup for a rear rack. In the past this bike has been used for bicycle touring and I was confident in the rack’s ability to hold weight. I simply installed my rear rack and set the battery box on top of the rack. This was not a very good idea because the battery box was sliding all over the place.

In August we reported on the Cogburn CG4, a fat bike designed for hunters. The high-end bike ($2,199) has a scabbard for a gun, bow or fishing pole, 3.8-inch fat tires and a camouflage aluminum frame.

Brakes: Caliper brakes (the type found on ordinary bicycles) are common on e-bikes, but disk brakes offer better stopping power. In wet conditions, however, initial braking can be slowed as you first clear water from the disk. It’s a minor thing, and you soon get used to it.
🙂 (Posted on 8/10/2015)

While the FAT bike tires may appear slow and cumbersome, nothing could be further from reality. Though they are certainly wider, and larger, than traditional 26” tires, FAT bike tires float over most surfaces and keep the bike’s steering lively and assuring. Depending on rider weight, FAT Tires can be inflated to pressures as low as 7pounds per square inch. Lower PSI is how you unlock the performance advantage of FAT tires. This larger tire coupled with lower-than-normal PSI inflation also serves a dual purpose: natural suspension. Over bumps, rocks, You’ll feel like you’re riding a cushy full-suspension bike, only it’s faster and more responsive. FAT tires allow the rider to sling shot themselves through the nastiest bumps in terrain. They also ride fantastically on road. If the mountain bike excels as a hunting machine, it shines even more in post-season scouting. If you’re anything like me, you probably don’t mind venturing into bedding areas once deer season ends, but you still want to get in and back out as quickly as possible. With the bike, you can do just that.

The pouch has a central compartment, a smaller sleeve that’s slim enough for your phone or wallet, and a key ring. While it is the smallest bag of the group, the pack is capable of holding four 12oz cans. More practically, it was capable of holding all the essentials, plus a compact jacket. Because of the lack of internal dividers, the added benefit of stuffing a jacket in the bag was that it prevented items from jostling around.
Again…slowly so you’ll understand…post 40 or so mph human power is irrelevant. You are into motorcycle territory. This magazine is about electric bicycles, not motorcycles. Yes, Tour de France athletes go faster than 40 down an Alp, but that’s a pretty special (gravity powered) situation. Yes, they do 34 on a short time trial, bent over on the profile bars, giving it full whack, but again that isn’t 45 or 55 is it? The max output of a human is 250 Watts. You go past the 5,000 Watts or so you need to do 40 mph plus the human is irrelevant – so take off the pedals and call it what it is – an electric motorcycle (which I agree are super cool by the way). Now electric bike said, “Contrary to popular opinion, the fastest electric bikes in the world right now were built in garages, not in factory workshops.” I’m saying two things. 1 – Since anything going faster than 45mph is no longer affected to any serious degree by the rider’s pedal power then it should no longer be classed as an electric bike, it should be classed as an electric electric hunting bicycles – in which case the Mission R is far better looking, better made and way faster than anything on this website – so electricbikes’s comment does not hold water. 2 – I think it’s odd to start calling electric bicycles super fast. That’s not what they are about. They are about a good mix of human and electric power. Go too fast and point 1 comes back into play. Geddit?

It seems the “enduro” mtbing category has pretty much ripped off the Enduro dirtbikers completely. First, the helmets, then the racing format (Time trial style), then the fannypacks for tools, now even Schwalbe’s “new” tire chambered system copies the motos! What’s next? The engine? Oh wait…

The main benefit of getting and using the Genesis Bow is that it has been developed with young users in mind. However, this does not mean they are not destined for adults, as they can be adjusted in accordance with the needs of the user, as he or she grows and develops his or her craft. The unit can cover all standard draw lengths as its line draw weight is adjustable between 10 and 20#.
If you’re going for a full-time electric bike, the distance you travel on a single charge will be reduced considerably, though it’s difficult to offer precise figures. Manufacturers will quote anywhere from 20 to 40 miles while simultaneously using phrases like “in ideal conditions.”

I don’t think the camo finish is important and tends to hide the bike when I’m searching for it in the woods. Other guys might like that but I am not really that into it. I have been tying an orange rag to the handlebars to help me out! It does look cool though and gets plenty of comments!
The front light/horn did not come with a bike handle bar attachment. However, I had several laying around from all of my previous bike product purchases. Otherwise you can visit your bike shop to see if they have one lying around the back stock rooms for free. A simple ¼” bolt and nut is used to connect the handle bar attachment and mounting bracket for the light/horn unit.
If you’re looking for the best hunting bow for the money that you are looking to spend, you want to make sure that it is adjustable so that you can get the best range. This bow presses the limits of performance and is incredibly versatile. The draw length ranges from 13 to 30 inches. The draw weight can range from a mere 5 pounds to an incredible 70 pounds. With such a wide draw range, you can expect this bow to be dependable, no matter the distance the target. The Infinite Edge comes with an infinite draw setting that is ideal for training programs, beginners, and even bow fishers.
First and foremost, make sure that when wiring the lights and front switch you measure and connect your wires without them connected to the batteries. (This will prevent damaging your switch or newly purchased lights.) My main wiring goal was to power the head lights, the front horn, and tail lights all with one set of wires from the batteries.
The first order of business: Lose all the shine. After removing all the decals, I lightly sanded the finish and wiped the bike down thoroughly with acetone; then, every surface from which light could reflect was covered with olive-drab spray paint. My ride looked cooler already.
If your frame doesn’t have water bottle mounts or you simply need to carry more water on your trail riders, you might as well just strap those tools onto your frame (via something like the Specialized SWAT system), and get your enduro on with the FlashFlo.

Matt  Recumpence has been a pioneer in adapting powerful RC-motors to electric bikes (specifically the top of the line Astro Flight stuff). After building several super powerful bicycles, Matt decided on a trike for his own set of wheels where the weight of the battery is down low, and 3 wheels is better than 2 wheels when handling the incredible high power that the Astro motor puts out in high-speed turns. Matt sells his reduction drive kits to the public, and many in the DIY community have used these to build themselves scorchingly fast and lightweight RC-powered bikes. (see our article on this trike here)
With an electric mountain bike (or e-MTB) that gives you assistance up to 25kph, it’s possible to pack twice as much riding into the same amount of time. Those five great trails that you normally ride after work can now be ridden twice. That boring singletrack climb on your lunchtime loop suddenly becomes the highlight of your day. With the extra push from the motor it’s easy to double the distance covered, or do the same ride in half the time.
Mid-mounted crank drives produce the most bicycle-like feel, because the pedal crank turns and drives the chain, just like when you pedal. Crank drives are efficient at transmitting power, which makes them popular, especially for fast, off-road electric bikes.

Deer hunting is survival hunting or sport hunting for deer, which dates back tens of thousands of years. There are numerous types of deer around the world that are hunted. It has quickly become one of the most favorite sports in the USA. The deer most sought after in North America, east of the Rocky Mountains, is the white-tailed deer. West of the Rockies, the mule deer is dominant. Blacktail deer are dominant along the west coast from Northern California to British Columbia. The most notable differences between these deer, other than distribution, are the differences in color, ears, tail, antler shape and body size. Many different weapons are permitted for deer hunting in various states during certain times of deer season. These include bows, crossbows, rifles, shotguns, handguns, and muzzleloaders.
One tactic involves using the bike to ride primary doe trails, taking note of cross-trails — which are easy to see after the season is over — along the way. I don’t mind if I bump a buck at this time of year, either, since my bike and I will be long forgotten by the following fall.

I enjoyed this article but I have two points to make, both about Cedric Lynch’s Feet First streamliner, which I have had the great pleasure of riding on several occasions. Firstly, I suspect it’s the only machine here which is actually street legal and properly road registered, complete with number plates, indicators, insurance etc. Secondly, it’s not any kind of bicycle, since it doesn’t actually have any pedals! More pix of Cedric’s machine here: http://bikeweb.com/image/tid/57
