There was no documentation in the box on how to set up or use my Bafang handle bar display. While riding I have no read out of speed or other information that I would expect to see on an eBike. I have to ‘tap’ my brakes to for the display to show me what power level (1-9) the motor is currently set at and to see how much battery charge is remaining (indicated as either 1-5 bars of power remaining). I suspect it’s a problem with the cadence sensor but I do not have the technical savvy to fix it without some help from Dillinger, which brings me to my next point.
My goal was simple: build an electric bike that everyone can replicate with minimal cost, without electrical know-how, but be powerful and reliable at the same time. Another major goal was to decrease complexity over other builds, which in turn would make maintenance easier over time.
While the FAT bike tires may appear slow and cumbersome, nothing could be further from reality. Though they are certainly wider, and larger, than traditional 26” tires, FAT bike tires float over most surfaces and keep the bike’s steering lively and assuring. Depending on rider weight, FAT Tires can be inflated to pressures as low as 7pounds per square inch. Lower PSI is how you unlock the performance advantage of FAT tires. This larger tire coupled with lower-than-normal PSI inflation also serves a dual purpose: natural suspension. Over bumps, rocks, You’ll feel like you’re riding a cushy full-suspension bike, only it’s faster and more responsive. FAT tires allow the rider to sling shot themselves through the nastiest bumps in terrain. They also ride fantastically on road. You’ll feel like you’re cornering on a motorcycle as you lean into turns on a descent at high-speed.
Now that I have built this bike, I think that I overdid the battery pack a bit with the weight, but the increased capacity, once a week charge requirement, and other pros have justified my positive opinion of this design. The bike literally helped transform my life. I no longer drive to work everyday, I ride my bike instead. Even during the cold winter months, I bundle up my 2-year-old son and transport him to school. I’m riding 90% of the time, which has drastically cut the carbon emissions I was generating.
The mid-drive kit slides through your bottom bracket and is screwed down tight on the other side with 2 hex screws tightened to 35-40nm of force. This is quite a bit of force and is typically how much force one person can generate with a hand tool using all of their might. One thing to note is that after two weeks of riding my bike, I had to re-tighten the mid-drive hex screws. I also had to re-tighten the screws holding my rear rack to the bike. Re-examining your bike for loose components is necessary for any bike, but even more so for electric bikes because the forces applied to them tend to be higher over time. Once you have the mid-drive kit installed on your bottom bracket the rest is pretty easy. Simply route the cables coming out of the motor to the designated locations on your bike.
This hunting bow comes with compressed ABS limbs that ensure long life. They offer sufficient weight, balance and strength to provide this element. The strong layered limb draws weights up to 70 pounds, and this can be reduced and raised by simply loosening and tightening the bolt, respectively.
After seeing these features, would you actually consider incorporating a bike into your hunt? The answer for me now is a definite yes, and when you see these things in action, you may be persuaded too.
They all have relatively long chainstays too, which further boosts stability. While this is normally related to tyre size, the orientation of the motor plays an even bigger part, which is why the Giant has the longest chainstays, even though it has the smallest wheel size.
An electric bike – often know as an e-bike – is basically a motor assisted ride. For the most part, they are a combination of a conventional bike with a battery and a motor, which takes some of the effort out of pedalling.
Noteworthy was the fact that the front wheel also had no ‘rim tape’, and the dimensions of the front tube were way different to that of the rear tube even though both wheels are identical (front tube measured an actual 26″ (internal diameter) and 2 1/8″ (at the rim)).

  1. Progress is so rapid that in many ways it’s feels like the dawn of mountain biking once again. Geometry is all over the map, new bands like Bosch are entering the mix, and MTB household names like Fox, SRAM and Shimano are all scrambling to develop bespoke ebike components.
    They also have a strong but lightweight cart you can pull behind your bike. Load it up with treestands, hunting gear, or pull your trophy whitetail out of the woods on it. This little workhorse can handle loads of up to 300 pounds!
