They also have a strong but lightweight cart you can pull behind your bike. Load it up with treestands, hunting gear, or pull your trophy whitetail out of the woods on it. This little workhorse can handle loads of up to 300 pounds!
To all that sit back and bash fanny packs, have you actually worn any of the products tested? Have you ever felt how nice it is to have nothing on your back and shoulders? A relatively small load – what, 3-4 pounds max? – carried by a well-designed waist strap is not going to constrict your waist or hamper breathing. Since you’re probably shuttling up, instead of earning your descent, there’s not going to be much huffing and puffing anyway if your body protests. Also, those of you with a waist size larger than your hips are inherently exempt, since the pack will constantly be sliding off your [trendy and expensive beer] gut…

Felt founder Jim Felt, an avid bow hunter, wanted to design a rig that could shlep gear far into the backcountry for multi-day hunting trips. His answer: the concept Bosch-powered Outfitter than can haul a trailer with up to 100 pounds of equipment. The trailer we saw at the show was a modified model from B.O.B., but Felt is apparently working on a design of its own for 2015.

This is the CB4. CB4 is a fatbike, a human powered all-terrain vehicle built to take hunters and anglers far into the backcountry quickly and quietly. Its massive 3.8”-wide tires run at very low pressure to provide flotation and amazing traction over rough or soft terrain.
Farfle decided one motor was not enough for his latest race bike creation and took 2 Golden Motor Magic Pies and joined them into one. He re-made many of the parts inside the motor.  He then laboriously (over 40  hours)  rewound his Frankenstein hub motor (a grueling job) and cut air cooling holes to end up with one of the most powerful hub motors ever put on a bicycle .The bicycle itself was purpose built from Autocad files to welding bench, to final frame. This bike has a top speed of over 70mph and still is used as a commuter and has over a thousand miles on it.  Recommend Farfle to bulders everywhere: Build to last…
So before I crown a victor, let me put this out there – I am not entirely sold on the fanny pack. Maybe I’ll be completely alone on this, but hydration bags are just so damn convenient. Why spend time awkwardly fumbling around for a water bottle when you can run electric hunting bike discounts spigot straight to your face? Hell, I stay better hydrated when I wear a bag because it’s so much easier and I’m not worried about running out of water. Not to mention that I don’t have to worry about salmonella because maybe my carbon wonder bike only has one water cage, and it’s located in the most inaccessible place imaginable.
Now that I have built this bike, I think that I overdid the battery pack a bit with the weight, but the increased capacity, once a week charge requirement, and other pros have justified my positive opinion of this design. The bike literally helped transform my life. I no longer drive to work everyday, I ride my bike instead. Even during the cold winter months, I bundle up my 2-year-old son and transport him to school. I’m riding 90% of the time, which has drastically cut the carbon emissions I was generating.
In August we reported on the Cogburn CG4, a fat bike designed for hunters. The high-end bike ($2,199) has a scabbard for a gun, bow or fishing pole, 3.8-inch fat tires and a camouflage aluminum frame.

The 750 watts of power is supplied to the rear hub by either pedal assist (the bike senses torque applied to the pedals and gives 5 levels of assist), or simply by the throttle integrated into the right hand grip.  The throttle will give you full assist on demand at any time.  The bike easily gets up to 20mph.  It will be a welcome break not having to pedal with all sorts of cold weather hunting gear, a backpack, and a weapon.
As e-bikes became more popular, dedicated models were developed. Most of them still look very much like ordinary bicycles, but now they’re built with the motor and battery as an integral part. Today’s electric bicycles are better balanced and more efficient than ever before.
Unfortunately when overstuffed, the fanny pack had a tendency to fold over on itself. The only way to resolve the issue was by simply packing less. This is understandable, considering it was designed for carrying a few small items while hiking.
The first 1,720-acre parcel of land was donated to then Colorado State Parks in 1986 by Frances Hornbrook Staunton. Subsequent parcels of land were added over the years to make up the now 3,828 acre park. Read more about the story of Staunton State Park at our history page.
With a range of 20+ miles, the Big Easy is positioned to put e-bikes on the map in the US where approximately 100,000 were sold in 2012. This figure lags behind sales in Europe where 1.1 million e-bikes were sold last year and in China, where approximately 27Million were sold in the same period! The Big Easy hits the fastest growing segments of the bicycle market – the electric category and fat tire category. With trends of electric car sales continuing to grow in the US as well as the use of bicycles for commuting in general, Defiant is positioned to take advantage of these macro trends with its introductory model – the Big Easy.
Greasypants not only built a clean looking Crystalyte hub motor powered 50-MPH bike and documented it on youtube, but he also created a book on how to build such a bike. He sells his book on the web for $50. For the last few years he has had a great presence on google searches, and has managed to make himself a few dollars while spreading the word on how to build an electric bike.
They all have relatively long chainstays too, which further boosts stability. While this is normally related to tyre size, the orientation of the motor plays an even bigger part, which is why the Giant has the longest chainstays, even though it has the smallest wheel size.

During an afternoon hunt, I’d followed my customary practice and stashed my bike in some brush. With just a few minutes of daylight left, I saw a coyote approaching over my right shoulder, just trotting along at first. Suddenly it crossed the path that my bike’s doe-urine-anointed tires had rolled down as I rode in. Immediately picking up the olfactory cue, it crouched low to ground and began belly-crawling towards my bike, stopping to sniff each spot of deer scent left by the rubber. It stalked right up to the brushpile, and I believe that it fully expected to see a young doe bedded there.
5 star rating for Tim and his team. New bike or service on any make or model of bike not an issue for them. His prices are realistic he wont try to retire of you.For 2.5 years they have kept our wareh…ouse bikes going for us. 1 month ago my wife purchased a Giant Bliss 2 from them and today I purchase a new bike from them. I recomend Hunter Cycles to anyone who even mentions a bike to me See More
Canadian “Dr Bass” is considered one of the pioneers in hot rodding hub motors (read our hot rod hub motor primer here) and has been doing it for years. His motor of choice is the large Crystalyte 5304, the same 25-lb rear hub-motor used in the Stealth Bomber. His bike of choice like many other guerrilla E-bike builders is a full suspension bike with an extra large triangle for convenient mid frame giant battery strap-ons….the Giant Down-Hill Comp. This bikes battery uses 100-volts, and puts out 150-amps for a mind-blowing 15,000 watts (20-horsepower, the national street-legal limit in the US is one-HP). Dr Bass holds the only official world speed record on an electric bike at a verified 58-MPH.  He is in contention with the young guns:  Liveforphysics and Farfle  to break the E-bike 100-MPH barrier. He has his hands full.

Once I received my batteries I tested each cell and each pack of 4 cells for voltage differences from the manufacturer. I then connected the four packs in series to quickly test the smart charger. Once I verified that the smart charger was working properly, I then started to install the LED balancer modules on each of the 16 cells. Each of these balance modules installed without any issues. Each 12-volt four-pack then needed to be connected in series to each other to make the 48-volt pack required to run the motor. The extra connector bars that I ordered didn’t quite reach from one battery to the other, so I flattened them down with a hammer to extend their length. The length was perfect and it also allowed me to put a small piece of cardboard between the batteries for shock protection.
After choosing your desired bike, the first step is to remove your chain, front crank set, and bottom bracket. Some chains are connected with a quick link which can easily be pulled apart. Other chains may require a chain tool to remove a link from the chain to get it separated.
With newer approaches like the TRX, a strap attached to the wall or ceiling, you can do pull-ups, pushups, squats, lunges, and other exercises. I’ve even done the TRX routine in hunting camp, using a 20-foot length of nylon webbing as a poor man’s TRX. Kettlebell training will give you a great workout, too.
Best known for their chocolate, watches and banks, the Swiss are also quite skilled bicycle makers as it turns out. If the BMC + Lamborghini collaboration wasn’t proof enough, see Stromer and new ST1 pedal-assisted electric bicycle. Now available for the first time stateside, the highly engineered electric bicycle resembles more of a city cruiser than the moped-looking bikes your delivery man rides—a design shift we’re more than pleased with. By leaning more toward a traditional frame geometry and monochrome colorway the new ST1 e-bike stands to go relatively unnoticed on the street—until it’s flying past the pack at up to 33 MPH that is.
The frame is made of high quality heat-treated, double-butted A6N-6000AL tubing. Superior design and workmanship result in a high quality bike that is light, strong and responsive so you can go everywhere your hunts takes you.
If you buy a used or new bike, and you are going to use a mid-drive motor kit, don’t invest your money into the front derailleur or one with a nice double or triple crank set up front. You will be removing these components, if using the mid-drive kit. So, look for single speed bikes or fixies. The problem with fixie bikes is that they are generally a minimalist bike without eyelets for rack attachments etc.

I waited patiently as the doe worked its way closer, and when it got to within 20 yards, I placed my top pin just behind its shoulderblade and released my arrow. The broadhead found its mark, and a few minutes later, I was giving thanks for my first kill of the season.
Almost any time you build a lithium battery pack you need a BMS. A BMS requires a wire to connect to each cell to balance the voltage or state of charge across the battery pack. Each one of these wires connects to the BMS circuit board to provide overcharge protection, discharge protection, overheat monitoring, short-circuit protection, and balancing functions, etc. During high discharge and charge sequences, the cell voltage and capacity can differ between cells, thus the need for a BMS.

The first order of business: Lose all the shine. After removing all the decals, I lightly sanded the finish and wiped the bike down thoroughly with acetone; then, every surface from which light could reflect was covered with olive-drab spray paint. My ride looked cooler already.
I bought this bike with intended use on my hunting farms. I’ve ridden it now off road several times, and to say I’m blown away, is an understatement. This bike simply blew me away on all fronts. The motor is super strong and pulls me around great. I’m 6’2 210 so I’m not a small guy either. Like others have said, if this thing doesn’t make you smile the first time you ride it, you’re just not a happy person!!!!
Every stick, vine, rock, branch and felled log finds a way to impede your progress — and that’s just going downhill. Skinned ankles, banged-up shins and the never-pleasant lunging off the seat and onto the bar of the bike are good-enough reasons not even to try it.

The next step is to remove your crank set. This usually involves using a hex tool to remove your crank arms, and then using a crank puller tool to pull the crank assembly away from your bottom bracket. Once you have the crank set removed from your bike you will need to remove your bottom bracket. The bottom bracket will generally unscrew using a special tool that matches your specific bottom bracket as there are several different models. Now you are down to the hole in the bottom of the frame. This is a good time to clean this part of your bike before you attach the new mid-drive motor assembly.
The only thing left was to add a double kickstand and some lights. The kickstand is really important for a bike of this weight. In my case, the kickstand makes it easier to unload and load my young son from the bike trailer I pull behind me. I simply flip down the kickstand and then the bike is stable.
Mountain bikes have occupied a small niche in bowhunting for many years, but they have never gone mainstream. These bikes are not made for hunting and therefore must be modified, and their use is limited to certain terrains. That said, the growth in popularity of fat tire bikes has been quite remarkable, and I suppose it was only a matter of time before they made a serious move at the hunting market.
Defiant has produced its prototype and two new versions of the Big Easy. All suppliers and vendors have been identified and contracted with. 30 frames have been manufactured and inventoried. All of these frames are 19 in frames with a 61cm top tube. Based on the success of the Big Easy on Crowd Supply, we plan to add more frame size options. The released product has been developed and built in the US.

Swimming – and water jogging – work wonders if you’re injured or badly out of shape. While preparing for the Boston Marathon, a friend of mine hurt his Achilles tendon and couldn’t run. So the last two months before the race he jogged in the pool (up to two hours per session!) to stay in shape. Without the impact of running on solid ground, his Achilles healed, and he ran Boston in 3:30.

Matt  Recumpence has been a pioneer in adapting powerful RC-motors to electric bikes (specifically the top of the line Astro Flight stuff). After building several super powerful bicycles, Matt decided on a trike for his own set of wheels where the weight of the battery is down low, and 3 wheels is better than 2 wheels when handling the incredible high power that the Astro motor puts out in high-speed turns. Matt sells his reduction drive kits to the public, and many in the DIY community have used these to build themselves scorchingly fast and lightweight RC-powered bikes. (see our article on this trike here)
The unit takes the cake when it comes to durability as it features a strong piece-layered limb. Additionally, you won’t have any trouble holding this bow as it makes sure that your grip is as firm as it can be considering that it comes with bubbled grooves on the riser.
If you’re going for a full-time electric bike, the distance you travel on a single charge will be reduced considerably, though it’s difficult to offer precise figures. Manufacturers will quote anywhere from 20 to 40 miles while simultaneously using phrases like “in ideal conditions.”
The second e-bike of our household. This thing looks even more gangster than it does in the photos. A real head turner. The BBS02 has power to burn and with the “Hot Rod-ing” of the throttle makes the world of difference to the way the kit responds. The other bike a BBS02 is not a Hot Rod and its going to have to be now that I have ridden one that is. The Hunter is not built for lightness. It is a heavy bike. The front fork works extremely well and handles all the bumps. The seatpost also aides the ride as it has a spring on it as well. The seat is also a relatively padded one. The The Hydrolic brakes work very well. My other bike has a Shimano 10 speed free wheel on the rear derailer. This gives an excellent range and combined with the standard front cog on the BBS02 is well matched. The Deore is a good quality unit and I am happy to see it on the Hunter as well. The only thing missing IMHO is a mid drive gear changer sensor. I have one on my home build. Problem is you can’t have a gear sensor and a e-brake cutoff so Dillenger have gone for safety over function on this one point. Bafang needs to build a splitter cable for the e-brake cut out plug which allows you to split into two plugs so you can have the e-brake as well as a gear sensor running on the electric hunting bike plug. Full points to you Dillenger for putting this one together – an almost complete off road unit bar the tyres. The ones on the bike aren’t off road knobblies which surprises me but its a minor swap out. (Posted on 30/09/2015)

Last but not least, the Infinite Edge Blk Ops has gathered some of the most outstanding customer reviews out there. People claim that you pay for what you get, but in this case, the expectations of buyers have been greatly exceeded. The bow shoots like a pro and comes with a lot more additional equipment than some of the expensive products on the line.
While the Outfitter was intended for hunters, we think it will suit anyone who wants to bring lots of gear into the woods under their own power—with some help from that Bosch eDrive. Several photographers remarked that the set-up is ideal for lugging professional camera equipment in for a shoot, says Felt Sales Manger IanMcCabe. And you can always carry beer. One hundred pounds of beer.
Summary: I really like this bike. It is fast, real fast. I feel the Hunter is priced well for a 750W mid-drive off-road bike. My friends have all tried it and they have been impressed with it also. After sales service hasn’t been great in terms of answering their phones, and I still don’t know exactly how fast I’m going, but I don’t need to, I ride by feel not by the speedometer. A little attention to the tyre/tube issues and adding rim tape to the wheel would be advantageous for getting good reviews. 🙂 Having said all that, I would highly recommend buying this bike if you can afford it. 🙂 (Posted on 8/10/2015)
The exciting thing about the Cube Agree is that it actually looks like a road bike. There are a few companies pioneering “normal” looking electric bikes, and it’s all possible thanks to the Fazua motor and battery.

If this were a beauty contest the Specialized Turbo Levo FSR Comp 6Fattie would have wooed the judges with its stunning aluminium frame, dazzling LED control pad, clever design and easygoing personality. It helps too, that it’s the most robust design in this test. Get past its devilish good looks, however, and you quickly realise that the Turbo Levo isn’t without fault. Power delivery from the Brose motor can be a little erratic, especially if you prefer to spin rather than mash on the pedals, and the frame sizing isn’t as generous as the Trek.

While the FAT bike tires may appear slow and cumbersome, nothing could be further from reality. Though they are certainly wider, and larger, than traditional 26” tires, FAT bike tires float over most surfaces and keep the bike’s steering lively and assuring. Depending on rider weight, FAT Tires can be inflated to pressures as low as 7pounds per square inch. Lower PSI is how you unlock the performance advantage of FAT tires. This larger tire coupled with lower-than-normal PSI inflation also serves a dual purpose: natural suspension. Over bumps, rocks, You’ll feel like you’re riding a cushy full-suspension bike, only it’s faster and more responsive. FAT tires allow the rider to sling shot themselves through the nastiest bumps in terrain. They also ride fantastically on road. You’ll feel like you’re cornering on a motorcycle as you lean into turns on a descent at high-speed.
I think the market will mature with manufacturers making e-bikes limited to 20mph. All the effort by manufacturers to make electric vehicles that are street legal and go faster than 20mph will be towards electric motorcycles, scooters, and cars which will need licenses and insurance. Of course there will always be garage builders making whatever they want but they will be a minuscule segment of the market.
To be honest its considered rather easy in the DIY community to build an awesomely fast hub motor powered  bike (read our hub motor hot rod primer).  All you really need is a fat wallet and the right list of components (battery, controller, and motor) which guys like Dr Bassand  Zombiess,  can sell you (greasypants will sell you a book to help you choose which components to buy). Hats off to the guys on this list who did it the hard way with  mid drive motor systems.  These mid-drive builders  are – Liveforphysics, MotoMoto, Cedric Lynch, Dogati, Recumbence, and Thud.
All of these machines in this list would be over any federal limit definition of “electric bike” so therefore all these electric bikes would be considered to be illegal in most countries. All except for one. The Cedric Lynch machine has turn signals, headlights, horn etc, and actually has a license plate, making it completely street legal as  motor bike. Unfortunately Cedric’s bike would also win the “booby prize” because I discovered later this bike does not have pedals.
The Impulso e-Road is Bianchi’s take on a “normal” looking e-bike. It’s different from the Cube Agree C:62 though because it uses a Polini E-P3 motor rather than a Fazua one. It’s still integrated into the down tube, though.

In sporty colors like yellow, green and red, your little rider can cruise in style at speeds of up to 15 mph. Adventures can usually last up to 40 minutes, or 10 miles, on a single battery charge. To ensure you get the right bike for your child, carefully examine the age and weight restrictions of your new electric bike.
The only thing left was to add a double kickstand and some lights. The kickstand is really important for a bike of this weight. If there’s one category in mountain biking that polarizes opinion more than any other it’s ebikes. It’s a complex debate that charged further because of issues with land access, trail sustainability and even the legislation governing the maximum speed of the bikes.
The Motomoto home-built Santa Cruz is the fastest electric bike I have ever ridden (or heard of) which actually still  feels like a bike. The entire bike and power system weighs only 60-lbs, and puts out close to 10-HP with its 5-lb Astro motor that’s being fed 8000 watts. Ten horsepower on a light weight bike is an awful lot of power when its run through the pedal gears, and it can be seen propelling this Santa Cruz down-hill bike to 65-MPH on the following video:
CARDIO FITNESS. Essentially you can gauge the value of your training on heart rate. To gain cardio fitness you have to raise your heart rate to a prescribed training level. The commonly accepted formula is 220-your age x .80-.90. For me the formula would be 220 – 66 = 154 x .85 = 131. So I try to do most of my training at a heart rate of at least 131. To learn more and to quickly calculate your training heart rate, Google “training heart rate.”
For starters, the weight distribution of the motor is much better. Instead of sitting on the front, it’s now centred around the bottom bracket, which makes the bike more stable – a key consideration for both road and mountain bikes.

The Hunter is designed to look like a bicycle, but electric hunting bike like a crossover between a bicycle, and an electric motorbike. This bike provides limitless fun, while riding a machine that still resembles a bicycle, not a motorcycle. More finesse goes into the design of product that has performance but is also subtle at the same time. This ‘best of both worlds’ was the design mantra for the Hunter range and the Hunter Mid Drive is the pinnacle.

In a friction drive motor, a small, solid wheel rotates against the side of the tire in order to drive it. The first motorcycles used the same concept, with a motor mounted above the front wheel. The problem is that the drive rubs at the side of the tire. It’s inefficient, and it quickly wears the sidewall away. Tires need to be replaced every couple hundred miles. For this reason, you’ll seldom see electric bikes with this type of drive anymore.

Defy convention. Defy polluters. And dramatically, definitively defy the elements with a revolutionary electric bicycle that gets you where you need to go – reliably, effortlessly and with zero emission. Come Hell or high snowfall. Combining off-road durability with an urbane sensibility, the Defiant Big Easy flies over potholes and drain grates and plows through snow and sand at speeds up to 20MPH. The motor uses no fuel, emits no pollution and costs just pennies to recharge.
The earliest episodes with John Amos as the captain were silly. His continuing bad attitude toward them in the face of their success was unrealistic. Beyond that, however, the entire series was great. It suffered some after Stepfanie Kramer left, but it was still good.
The battery and motor are fully self-contained and completely removable and live inside the down tube of the frame. It’s a neat system that also makes the bike light – and the complete model weighs a claimed 13.1kg. Spec-wise it comes with Shimano Ultegra 11-speed, Schwalbe Durano E tyres
Looking to capitalize on the success of his prototype, Spreng teamed up with Jonathan Dombek and Greg Heinemann to develop Defiant, the company, and build its first model, the Defiant: an electric bike (e-bike) with the styling and craftsmanship one would expect to find in a top-dollar bike. Named, the Big Easy, Defiant’s first model has will fit and/or exceed the needs of several riding styles. As a FAT bike, it can go anywhere in as a commuter, snow, sand or rocky trail mountain-bike. It’s also perfect for the adventure-sportsman looking to get to a deer stand or previously unattainable location with a stealthily quiet mode of transportation.
Your product will be shipped to its final destination to arrive in 2 business days or faster. If your order is placed before the 11 a.m. PST cutoff time, then it will ship that day and arrive 2 business days later. If your order is placed after the 11 a.m. PST cutoff time, we will do our best to process it the same day but may need an extra day.
A fat e-bike may be most at home in the slush or sand, but Defiant’s idea was to build a bike that could excel all year, in all types of conditions, not just in the winter or on the sand. It claims the bike is a year-round workhorse and recreational steed for mountain biking and commuting. It’s also marketing the bike at hunters, adventure tourers and other cyclists that cover a lot of ground with an abundance of gear.
Anyone who calls himself “dat nigga” wouldn’t get it anyway. You wouldn’t get it for another reason to. You don’t even speak english, you speak some type of ebonics type shit. I saw your comments. Out of 300 of them you actual say the word “nigga” in 298 of them. I can’t believe you actually learned to read and type. Props for that son!
Defiant is currently trying to raise funds on crowd-sourcing site CrowdSupply.com. A Big Easy with a 6061 aluminum frame (built in Portland, Oregon), Shimano XT components and disc brakes is being offered for US$4,495. That’s well over the price of the Trail Tracker but competitive with a Surly Moonlander outfitted with a comparable electric motor system. Other Defiant models are available for preorder on the company’s website.
After choosing your desired bike, the first step is to remove your chain, front crank set, and bottom bracket. Some chains are connected with a quick link which can easily be pulled apart. Other chains may require a chain tool to remove a link from the chain to get it separated.

I bought the RipStrip and sent it straight back. Couldnt fit a Galaxy S7 in it and felt like it was backed by Cardboard. Replaced it with a HighAbove Das Bum Bag (Fanny pack) or for the enduro bro’s waist bag.
To help the rider find the perfect fit, the stem is adjustable. The bike also boasts dynamo powered lights alongside hydraulic disc brakes. The bike will suit riders from 4 ft 10 to 6 ft 5, and also integrates with a child seat. The total weight is 21.8kg, making it admittedly a fairly hefty folder – but that’s fairly uniform across electric versions.

I enjoyed this article but I have two points to make, both about Cedric Lynch’s Feet First streamliner, which I have had the great pleasure of riding on several occasions. Firstly, I suspect it’s the only machine here which is actually street legal and properly road registered, complete with number plates, indicators, insurance etc. Secondly, it’s not any kind of bicycle, since it doesn’t actually have any pedals! More pix of Cedric’s machine here: http://bikeweb.com/image/tid/57
Zombiess is a builder who is bringing to market an oversized 25-lb hub motor (a large version of the 9C) which was designed for large 45-MPH Chinese electric scooters, but some daring E-bike  builders such as Zombiess have recently been adapting them to electric bikes, and of course…upping the voltage! Just like the Crystalyte 5304, Hubzilla motors are extra wide and they need a custom-built extra-wide frame. Zombiess managed to get his 59-MPH speed run proven and on youtube:

The basic geometry of the bike puts the user in an upright position, which is also good. It’s comfortable, lets you ride at low speeds in heavy clothes and still manage all the roots, ruts and rocks in the trail. The bike comes with really, really wide handle bars that add to easy steering.
What type of batteries are common? Well, Lithium ion batteries are becoming popular the world over so it’s no surprise to see them specced on e-bikes, too. Typically, you should get around 800 charge cycles from a battery before it bites the dust.
Having been around the business of bowhunting for more than 40 years, I have seen some products, ideas and concepts come and go. A lot of them. Some of these things become important parts of bowhunting success for many archers, some find a small niche and move along with the growth of the industry, and, of course, some are relegated to the ash-heap of history.  The ones that survive seem to be products http://huntnbike.com fill a need.
Around 90% of electric bikes are powered by standard lithium-ion batteries, but there have been further developments in the technology. These developments include lithium-ion polymer batteries, lithium manganese batteries, and lithium cobalt batteries.
After using a bike for this upcoming season, I should have a lot better feel for how these questions will be answered. At this point, I can see all kinds of applications for them in scouting, checking game cameras, plus getting to and from a treestand. The advantage of being able to get around much more quickly could be huge.
So before I crown a victor, let me put this out there – I am not entirely sold on the fanny pack. Maybe I’ll be completely alone on this, but hydration bags are just so damn convenient. Why spend time awkwardly fumbling around for a water bottle when you can run a spigot straight to your face? Hell, I stay better hydrated when I wear a bag because it’s so much easier and I’m not worried about running out of water. Not to mention that I don’t have to worry about salmonella because maybe my carbon wonder bike only has one water cage, and it’s located in the most inaccessible place imaginable.

Although nearly everybody on this list tried to make money off their electric bike ideas, 2 have seemed to make enough to make a living off of it. The entrepeneur spirit award goes to Cedric Lynch and Greasypants. Cedric Lynch’s motors are sold all over the world in high performance electric vehicle applications such as E-motorcycles, and Greasypants’ electric bike E-book is one of the most predominant electric bike products on the web, which is clearly sold at a great profit. Greasypants has a real knack for internet marketing.
* Weight training. Start with good old pushups and pull-ups. You can do them anywhere, and they build strong arms and shoulders just as they did 50 years ago in my school PE classes. For the legs do squats and lunges. Again, you can do these anywhere, and you can easily add weight to increase demand. In one hunting camp, I used a propane cylinder in place of a barbell while doing squats and lunges.

Maintenance tasks for an e-bike – chain tension adjustments, brake adjustments – are often the same as they are for ordinary bicycles. You can probably handle these tasks yourself. When it comes to battery and motor maintenance, however, we recommend using an expert.
Only one of these builders it seems has made no attempt to make any money out of his electric bike creation, and in fact has spent probably more money per operational mile on his creation than anyone on this list. The independent spirit award goes to Liveforphysics, who seems to build his bikes for the pure fun and belief in promoting the electric bike cause. There is no “secret sauce” to LFPs creations…he shares all the info from his builds with pics, and his videos show the sheer joy on his face and also those around him.
When turkey hunting odor is not an issue but for deer, predators, etc. using an electric bike would eliminate sweating, be quieter and reduce scent from boots verses walking. My walk ins are not bad but on public land the bike could get a hunter deeply in as well as reduce odor. However, In Arkansas I do not believe any motorized vehicle is allowed in our Ozark or Ouachita National Forests?

You are missing the point dd. The point is that if pedaling is completely irrelevant then it’s not an electric pedal bike anymore; it’s an electric motorbike. Once electric bikes start hitting 40+ you may as well take off the pedals – they’re just getting in the way. If you want to start judging electric bikes on speed and range then gas bikes are going to win, since gas still has a way higher energy density than batteries. You dumb schmuck.

The original battery holder design used a wooden battery box (above). However this design posed issues with weight high up on the back side of the bike. When parking the bike, the kickstand was very unstable. The bike would tend to topple over if someone accidentally touched of the bike. I was also nervous when parking the bike at the grocery store or some other stop in town. So I decided to remove the battery box and install pannier bags. This new design is simple because it keeps the weight down low making the bike more stable. In addition, the bags could be used to carry extra gear and items around town. The only inconveniences are the fact that you have to run a series wire from one bag to another to connect each 24V battery pack. As well as any 48V connection would have to span two packs.

More often than not, hunters try to use a bow that has too much draw weight so they can get more speed when they shoot their arrows. Ideally, you will want to find the right amount of draw weight that will allow you to pull back smoothly and hold the arrow steady while you are taking aim. This smooth action should be so minute, that the animal will not be able to detect you.
I have done over 200 km on this bike so far and it lives up to its specs, especially its top speed and acceleration. There are bikes out there, specifically the Specialised Turbos, which are similar in specs but much higher in price point (+$2000) – so its definitely competitively priced. The only issue I have had on it is the battery life. However that’s because I am 104 kg and my backpack is usually 6 kg and I always ride it in the highest power output level, the higher gears, with little or no peddling, and I live in a hilly area (some hills being 50% incline) – so its expected I would get less range (I get a range of 15 km). (Posted on 07/04/2016)
Whether the terrain is flat or hilly impacts the distance you can travel, as does the weight of the bike, your own weight, the gearing available on the bike, and how much juice you give it. We suggest that a distance of 10 to 20 miles is a realistic expectation. Of course, if you’re prepared to do at least some pedaling, you can extend that dramatically.

But when trucks, four-wheelers and marching hunters break the eight-month silence and begin spreading foreign smells through the woods, it takes almost no time at all before the deer completely change their ways, transforming, seemingly overnight, into nervous, mostly nocturnal animals that proceed with caution, scenting the wind before emerging from thick cover. They pattern human movement — not difficult to do when humans are associated with running motors and exhaust fumes.

After the batteries were connected in series I then wrapped the battery pack with duct tape to secure them together. After adding sufficient packing material to the empty battery box, I slid the battery pack into the box with a nice snug fit. I decided to add a 30 amp inline fuse to the positive battery terminal of the battery pack. You could also add the fuse to the negative terminal, but I believe it is standard to be installed on the positive terminal.

This bike is perfect for all hunters. Being from the mountains of PA I always had to pack all my gear and camping equipment into a backpack and by the time I reached my destination, I was exhausted. …The EEMule is a very powerful, very silent bike that has no trouble scaling tall mountains and rough terrain. I should also mention, this bike does great in the snow due to its wide tires. 10/10 and highly recommended. See More
On each side of the bag is a water bottle. Each is held in place by an elastic tab. During climbs, I left the elastic undone for easier access to the water bottles, but locked them in place after earning my turns.
Unless your number one love in life is bikes, you probably don’t have every bike tool needed for this project. It is a really good idea to make friends with a bike mechanic at your local bike shop. Tell them what you are building and see if they have any good ideas. I did remove my crank set myself, but did not have the bottom bracket tools. I took my bike to the bike shop to have them remove my bottom bracket and install the mid-drive motor kit. I could have purchased the tools to do it myself, but he was able to do it for me in as little as five minutes. They didn’t charge me because it was so quick — and because they would be making money on all of my bike accessory purchases (which is a really good business model and great customer support).

I bought an electric bike mainly for hunting purposes earlier this year. Due to the motor size of 750 watts, it is not considered a motorized vehicle like a motorcycle where I live in the Rocky Mountains. No idea what the regs are in other states. It is considered a bicycle and can therefore be used just about anywhere on public land. Great way to go when you are covering tens of thousands of acres. Going from a week to a day to cover one of the ranches I hunt.
Typically, you’re more likely to find a hub mounted motor on cheaper e-bikes. While they do have the advantage of being perhaps a little bit more quiet, they often can’t handle the hills quite as well.
Most consumers want an e-bike that will accommodate its motor without being too cumbersome and will remain stable in spite of its electronic components. Some consumers want only the most basic of e-bike features, including lights, a cargo rack/basket, and a water bottle holder. Others are focused more heavily on safety features, such as brake type. And still others are concerned with convenience and portability.
The first flat was on the rear wheel and it happened on the first day of riding. The puncture was directly over where the tube sits on the wheel, and I noted the following (a) there was no ‘rim tape’ to protect the tube from the wheel, (b) the tube had an actual inflated internal diameter of approx. 22 1/2″ to 23″ (even though it said it had a 26″ diameter) and was only 1 1/8 ” wide.
Electric road bikes are still a rare sight on the roads, although a couple of big names such as Giant have produced models. For the most part, though, they’re concept bikes showing what might one day be possible with road frames, batteries and motors.
The BBS-HD is a complete ground-up rework for the most powerful and efficient mid drive unit on the market. The BBS-02 was a 9 FET 25A system based on the BBS-01. The BBS-HD has grown a lot in size up to 12 FET and can comfortable churn out 30A all day long without missing a beat. The size of the motor considerably larger than the BBS-02 so we’ve designed a cover that partially conceals the motor. The BBS-HD comes custom spec’d with the patented GearSensor as standard which you will need on those gear shifts. The BBS-HD is at the limit of what is viable on an e-bike for a mid drive powerplant. The GearSensor works with the motor and intermittently inhibits the power from the motor during each gear shift, to ensure you don’t throw a chain or damage the shifter and derailleur. We’ve tuned this system so you don’t have to.

In terms of how far you can go, there’s a big difference between a pedelec (pedal-assisted electric bike) and full-time electric bike. If you’re prepared to pedal and only need help on hills, you could get anywhere from 50 to 100 miles on a single charge with the former.
Bike Rumor! DAKINE Sweeper Waist Hydration Pack is the one. It’s for paddling, and it’s what I’ve been using for a while for mtb. My bike, a Tracer 275 has no water bottle cages. There are a lot of electric bicycles (e-bikes) on the market today — from off-road adventure beasts to fat-tire bikes with folding frames. Some can’t even be legally ridden on streets. Then there are the dedicated off-road e-bikes. These bikes push the boundaries of what’s possible, and the combination of materials and technologies doesn’t come cheap. You’ll pay a minimum of $3,500 for an off-road e-bike. During the course of our research, we found one for as much as $36,000.

Contrary to popular opinion, the fastest electric bikes in the world right now were built in  garages, not in factory workshops. Maybe its because companies are not interested in making illegally fast electric bikes because of liability, maybe there isn’t enough profit in making expensive and fast electric bikes, or maybe companies lack innovation and are waiting for individuals to make the bold steps forward. For whatever reason DIY garage-built bikes right now are the fastest electric bikes on the planet. I can put it this way, when Specialized announced last month that they were releasing the “worlds fastest electric bike” with a 25o watt motor, there were chuckles heard from garages everywhere. Some of the bikes on this list put out 200,000 watts. And racing any of these bike against the Specialized would be like racing a Hyundai against a Formula 1 car. This is a list of the 10 fastest electric bikes that we know of right now. No marketing BS here.  To qualify for this list, the builder must have shot a Youtube video that illustrates the claimed speed of the electric bike. As we know the electric bike world is full of exaggerators…DIY builders being no exception. All the people on this list are respected builders, and are named by their Endless-Sphere forum handles. Endless-Sphere is the hang out spot for DIY builders and hot rodders. On this list  are some of the biggest names in the DIY community. There are a few (very expensive)  commercially available E-bikes that would make it to the middle of this list, but we have excluded those for now and will celebrate  those instead  in this  story… Top 10: The Fastest Commercially Available Electric Bikes. This here  list is to honor the achievements in the DIY community:

The next step: Accessorize the bike for hunting. My primary goal was to customize a bike that I could use to carry my bow and, perhaps, a small pack into the woods. (The design I eventually came up with works for rifle hunters, too.)
In terms of motors, the big names are Yamaha, Bosch and Shimano. Shimano Steps was the first e-bike specific groupset from the Japanese giant and it features a mid-drive electric motor, as well as integrated electric shifters and a torque sensor to smooth out the ride a little.

🙂 (Posted on 08/10/2015)
As a result, nowadays, FAT bikes are so much more than snow bikes. From winter riding, to desert sand dune sessions, to long-distance adventure touring, not to mention plain old-fashioned trail riding on your favorite patch of single-track, FAT bikes are showing up everywhere. FAT bikes are currently the fastest growing segment in the bicycling industry. Companies can’t make enough of them to keep in stock. That’s why we’re so excited about this opportunity. We wanted our first bike to make a splash, and what better way to do it than with the introduction of a Made in the USA electric FAT Bike?
Cycling. Biking doesn’t give the quick cardio returns of running because you (probably) cannot hit your training heart rate as quickly. That’s because you’re essentially using only your legs, and the bike seat supports most of your weight.
Partnering with the Walton Family Foundation, the IMBA says it is poised to launch its largest trail fund ever. Launching this spring, the Trail Accelerator grant program will award MTB development funds to communities deemed most in need.

By investing in a new hunting bow, you will want to set a budget, as the bows can get quite expensive. It is possible to find a good bow under your budget, however you may fall victim to a cheap bow. Always do your research and test the bow in person if it is possible.
The CB4 frame has attachment points for 1, 2, or 3 standard water bottle cage mounts, depending on the space available on each frame size (larger frames have more bottle mounts, smaller ones have less). The fork has 2 mid-blade mounts and 2 sets of triple-boss attachment points, one on each leg, for oversize cages on the fork to expand carrying capacity for water, stove fuel, sleeping pads and other gear.
I can’t fault the componentry much. It is mostly mid/high end accessories and parts that match well with the price (especially now that it is around $400 cheaper than when I purchased it a few weeks ago, ouch!).
Before I started bowhunting, I had no idea of the joy that hunting unpressured deer brings. Only one other archer was in my hunting club, and those first few weeks before gun season started were truly wonderful.

Available now to North America, the ST1 e-bike can be found at Stromer dealers where it sells for around $3,500. If the asking price is a bit steep Stromer is currently promoting an ST1 giveaway for US residents, ending 17 May 2013.
If you have always wanted to hit the field with confidence but never had the opportunity to use specialized gear that allows you to raise up to par, you might be interested in checking out the SAS Sergeant 55 27-29. This is a compound bow that’s as smooth as possible and that makes hitting the target as easy as pie.
The time or distance an electric bike battery will run between chargings is impossible to judge with much accuracy. There are too many variables: terrain, speed, rider weight, bike load (shopping, kids, luggage), and more. However, we can make a few generalizations about an e-bike’s recharge time and overall working life. These generalizations should be used for comparison purposes only.
“I thought I’d give a fat tire snow bike a try,” Spreng explains on Defiant’s CrowdSupply campaign. “It worked great on snow and ice, but it wasn’t fast enough for me. So, I put an electric motor on my snow bike. It was brilliant. Now I could go 15 to 20 miles per hour on snow-covered trails and roads while still getting a terrific workout. That’s really how Defiant https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_bikes and the Big Easy model were born.”
Don't toss those those dead rechargeables out of your mobile phone, camcorder or camera—they can be recycled. In fact, they're toxic, the industry wants them back and is providing thousands of recycle bins in the U.S. and Canada to make…
DIET. During a long hunt, you wouldn’t carry a load of rocks in your pack just for fun, so why carry a load of fat? Not only does fat indicate you’re out of shape, but it’s also as functional as the rocks. In short, for aggressive mountain hunting get as lean as possible without sacrificing strength.

Deer hunting is survival hunting or sport hunting for deer, which dates back tens of thousands of years. There are numerous types of deer around the world that are hunted. It has quickly become one of the most favorite sports in the USA. The deer most sought after in North America, east of the Rocky Mountains, is the white-tailed deer. West of the Rockies, the mule deer is dominant. Blacktail deer are dominant along the west coast from Northern California to British Columbia. The most notable differences between these deer, other than distribution, are the differences in color, ears, tail, antler shape and body size. Many different weapons are permitted for deer hunting in various states during certain times of deer season. These include bows, crossbows, rifles, shotguns, handguns, and muzzleloaders.
In my experience so far, I have had to charge my battery pack once a week. Even with pulling my child behind me to school and back everyday. However, I only ride about 7 miles round trip each day, but there is one major hill that drains the battery juice.
As these fat tire bikes have showed up at hunting shows over the last year, I have viewed them more with curiosity than anything, but I as I considered how they might fit into my bowhunting, I am about to take the plunge. I bowhunt whitetails on public land in several states each year, and that often involves getting way back into a property to get away from the crowds. For example, I have found a location where I have killed a couple of mature bucks on public land in Kansas, but it’s a walk of more than 1.5 miles. That’s a long haul before daylight and after dark. Once I shoot a big buck back in there, the distance seems to become even longer.
Saving our Species is a innovative conservation program in NSW. It aims to halt and reverse the growing numbers of Australian animals and plants facing extinction. This program aims to secure as many threatened species that can be secured in the wild as possible, for the next 100 years.
Fully integrated into the frame’s downtube, a single 500 kWh battery—guaranteeing 750 full charge cycles—powers the Shimano drivetrain, all the while boasting a touring range between 80-100 km. To make sure all is working efficiently, an onboard interface the size of an iPod Nano is mounted on the handlebars. The digital readout shows the rider battery levels and consumption rates, current and average speed, distance traveled, duration and time of day.
Rear hub motors are also popular. Some owners suggest they make the back of the bike feel a bit heavy (the battery is often back there, too), but balance is still good. In many ways, this is rear-wheel drive like you get with a scooter or motorbike. The rear hub looks larger than usual, but in profile, it looks much like an ordinary bike.
At the outset of our electric mountain bike testing we were convinced that the deciding factor would be the performance of the motor. Could a small independent company like Brose compete with a household name like Bosch, and what, if anything, would Yamaha — with its wealth of experience in motorcycles — bring to this e-bike roundtable?
I don’t think the camo finish is important and tends to hide the bike when I’m searching for it in the woods. Other guys might like that but I am not really that into it. I have been tying an orange rag to the handlebars to help me out! It does look cool though and gets plenty of comments!
